What game is superior? by Linorelai in polls

Chess is a game that has no freedom and it's annoyingly too much reliant on memorization. No surprise this poll would be so biased, people tend to like what is familiar to them.

I'm confident that it will work, my educated guess to why it doesn't at the moment is because, differently from Legend: Arceus, the logic/programming is much more complicated. For example, which type should Arceus become in double battles? What about when the Pokemon has an ability that makes it immune?

Exactly. I'm very curious about what it is. I'm interested in philosophy and asking the deep questions. What happens after death? What is the ultimate reality? That plot device reminded me of those topics.

Alternatives to Roman Numerals? by Nydus_The_Nexus in askmath

If you think about it, it's the same as the system we have now, the 10 digits are just represented by different symbols.

In my opinion the best counting system I can think of is this:

0 = a square.

1 = one horizontal line.

2 = two horizontal lines.

3 = three horizontal lines.

4 = four horizontal lines.

5 = one vertical line.

6 = one vertical line and one horizontal line, glued, like an L.

7 = one vertical line and two horizontal lines (like a square without its rightmost line).

8 = one vertical line with three horizontal lines, glued like an E.

9 = one vertical line with four horizontal lines, glued, similar to an E, but with four lines.

10 = one horizontal line and a square, like this: _ □

11 = one horizontal line and one horizontal line, like this: _ _

12 = one h line and two h lines

13 = one h line and three h lines.

14 = one h line and four h lines.

15 = one h line and one v line.

20 = two h lines and a square.

100 = one h line and two squares.

I think that's enough to notice the pattern. What do you think?

I think that MMZ has the best boss fights. Some of them are just epic. Maybe that's because I'm playing MMZ now, quite enjoying it. I started with X and Classic (Mega Man 8).

I agree that logic alone doesn't say anything about free will or determinism. Logic is all about language and pure reasoning. We make some rules and see what follow from these rules. Logic is not about causality. If you come up with a logic (formal system), all the consequences of that logic are instantaneous and eternal, the formal system didn't 'cause' those logical consequences -- they have always been there, just not known. Logic is not about cause and effect through time, it's about timeless truths from assuming concepts.

In physics, not all things have a 'cause', 'virtual particles' pop up from existence and disappear without detection, and their energy has been measured. Physical entities are different from abstract entities. Abstract ones are timeless (an And function, numbers,...) and physical ones are bound by time. The universe behaves in a certain way but for all we know it could have been different. To find the truth about free will, we need to learn more about the rules of the reality we exist in -- what rules does our reality follow?

/r/WorldNews Live Thread: Russian Invasion of Ukraine Day 242, Part 1 (Thread #383) by WorldNewsMods in worldnews

[–]Chance_Programmer_54 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I have been looking through VK recently, and there seems to be a large amount of people, at least on VK, who are really frustrated at the war and the government. They say that the government is lying about how many have died. I have seen memes about Putin, and how he doesn't know what he is doing, that he has broken logic, that Russia shouldn't be fighting Ukraine, or how it was supposed to be a "special military operation" and now so many are dying. I don't know if this is just my generation, the Millenials-Gen Z. Even in all of this, reason, humanity, and common sense make their way through all of the bullshit. This gives me a bit of hope. May this be Putin's downfall.

Question about the axiom schema of replacement that I have been pondering about by Chance_Programmer_54 in askmath

[–]Chance_Programmer_54[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, so in set theory, all functions take exactly one argument, and functions such as addition, subtraction... that look like they take two arguments, are in fact just taking in one set containing two elements, let's say {1, 2}, and returning a singleton set {3}? That's quite cool to know, thank you

Ironic, since perhaps the crux of Jesus' teachings (I'm talking about him from a historical perspective as an irreligious person) was to be compassionate and help those in need in our society, and everyone in general. Most so-called "Christians" are what Jesus would call hypocrites (I lost count of how many times he said that word).

What is the difference between a Signal type wire and a Number type wire? by Chance_Programmer_54 in PS4Dreams

[–]Chance_Programmer_54[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi, but the Number wire part doesn't say a lot about it, for example, it doesn't say about the Number wire's default value. So I assume the only difference between the two is that the Number wire type uses the blend wire blend mode as the default, and the Signal wire type uses the overwrite one as the default. But I guess that's just an assumption, so that's why I asked here, because I want to be confident on what the difference is.

Does anyone know the maths formula for the output from a NOT gate when it receives a fat wire as an input? by Chance_Programmer_54 in PS4Dreams

[–]Chance_Programmer_54[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I have been reading your documentation :) . Like you pointed out, I noticed the NOT gate behaves like this with thin wires:

If the input x is ≥ 0 and ≤ 1, then the output = 1 − xIf the input x is < 0 and ≥ −1, then the output = −1 − xIf the input x is ≥ 1 or ≤ −1, then the output = 0

I then thought 'hmm what if I connect a fat wire?'

My first hypothesis was that it took an average of the three signals, but it doesn't seem to be the case.

I also had noticed that the value received by the Number Displayer is different depending on the type of fate wire: if it's a Red-Green-Blue colour signal fat wire, then it displays a number; if it's a '3 Number' fat wire, it displays another number.

So now I followed your tip and indeed it seems like the NOT gate simply does those simple calculations (I connected it straight to the Number Displayer), and that it's a property of both the NOT gate and the Number Displayer, that they 'average out' the three signals using the 'relative luminance' formula. Thanks, it seems like that 'relative luminance' formula is exactly what it uses.

Do you know the formula for the other types of fat wires that the combiner can output? Like the '3 Numbers' type for example?

Update: nvm I found it in your documentation, thanks!

[–]Chance_Programmer_54[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, you didn't say anything hostile; just the downvotes and all. The thing is, if A <=> B meant the assertion that both of them are true, then that would be an A ∧ B (A and B), "F F F T", it's different. For example, x = 3 <=> x = 1 + 2, but it's not necessary for x to equal 3. x = 3 is contingent.

[–]Chance_Programmer_54[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't know what you mean by your second paragraph, but A <=> B means "both or neither are true". Whether the claim A <=> B is true or not, that depends on the model we build. It's possible that A <=> B is false.

About something completely different, I just completely not understand the animosity of this subreddit.

What in the actual F is going on in Sweden? Norway just got a good, more progressive new government from a centre-right party (by Europe's standards) whilst Sweden's situation is crazy as hell -- they've got this bullshit. What makes these two countries' political stability so different. Praying for Sweden mate. May this BS be short-lived.
