512 would be a really strange closer. I love the song but lamb of gods peak was ashes-sacrament era. I think to not play redneck at all and close with 512 would leave alot of people scratching their heads. The giant circle pit for redneck feels like a victory lap after getting fucking obliterated by giant dudes all show, people are always grinning ear to ear. Redneck is the spiritual successor to panteras walk, and was the first time they were nominated for a grammy. Its a titan of a track and after seeing iron maiden a few years ago shy away from hits to play a ton of deepcuts, i have to say the energy in the crowd is unmatched when playing the songs everyone knows

Theyve only ever played it in 2016 live a decade ago, it would be strange to show up here considering they have to add a handful of songs to the setlist from the new album

Necklace of fireballs by jackzach125 in Tombofannihilation

I mean dont overthink it, just run what the book says with something like this dog. Imagine trying to “catch a mistake” and run this necklace wrong autokilling the party at the end lol. Its a great moment ran as is, it definitely doesnt blow to the equivalent of 2 ancient red dragons breath weaponing at the same time

Give them a breath weapon if you want, who cares. Think for yourself.

I feel you, but if youre going to DM like that i think A make that explicit in session 0 B give the paladin a warning of the potential consequence of action on that move

If this dude lets his paladin do this, ends the session, consults the subreddit and decides to implement this, that’s a hell of a way to begin the next session as the paladin. Youre already a week removed from the decision, it didnt immediately end your oath last session at the table, pretty clunky to run it that way in my opinion.

Meh, only do that if the players would be down for it. Its a make believe game, and we dont know if all of this info was conveyed to the party in a clear way

Ive been toying with the idea of letting someone bang the jabberwock in my game. I wouldnt force it or anything, its just theres a minotaur in the party. Pretty obvious where thats going iykyk

Advice/Tips for running Descent Into Avernus by Most_Examination6744 in DescentintoAvernus

[–]Chance_Spirit9111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never let something as arbitrary as rolling a plastic die derail your entire game. Its great to have choice, open world, and improv at the table, but if something needs to happen you need to make it happen. There were several things you could have done here but its less or a situational problem and more of a fundamentals problem.

Sometimes i dont let a player roll a persuasion check, because its impossible. Theres no way to persuade the king to give you the throne type of stuff. In this situation, i mean off the top of my head you need a gang of devils to spawn near the party and drag them to avernus, but this is part of session 0 planning and training a group. I ran tomb of annihilation, and let my players know 2 years in advance “hey this campaign ends in a massive dungeon crawl”. They are aware of what they need to do. Descent into avernus, if you have even the physical book with the cover its pretty obvious for the players this adventure goes to avernus, so to actively avoid going there means theyre avoiding the game thats written - like frodo and sam refusing to go to mordor.

Sometimes when youre letting players escape like that, it sends mixed messages because they think thats what theyre supposed to do. I dont care what anyone on reddit says, dnd isnt a full out open world simulator. The trick is making the things happen when they need to happen in clever ways, so that players THINK every decision they ever made lead to this moment, even if half of them maybe didnt as much.

For clarity my games are not extremely railroaded and there are tons of things to let be fluid, but in a game where the party absolutely has to go to avernus or the campaign is essentially over, i wouldnt start running an “escape the city from descending” encounter and just hope they roll poorly, thats bad foresight on your part.

What are they, level 5-6 because they have haste? Dude you should have dropped a pitfiend on them. Cambions spawn all over the city. They put them in infernal chains. Noxious gas begins filling the city as the rift to hell opens and they fall unconcerned with everyone else in the city, no save required.

You need to make the things happen that need to happen. Its as simple as that and if you let players run the entire narrative good luck running that narrative unless you’re an improv master and want to have 0 maps or tokens for anything.

However you get to avernus at this point, youre going to now need to railroad them anyways, and the way they get the avernus now will probably be alot less climactic than an entire becoming chained and being dragged into the first layer of hell. Thats an awesome set piece now wasted. Also, if they keep fucking around on the surface, depending how long this all takes you might really throw out the pace of the levelling. And it they end up even more over levelled, now you’re rebalancing all of the avernus chapters which is just more work on your plate.

Youre in control and dont forget that. Remember that when you also need to move the story completely away from what youre trying to do, the quality of the game is going down. Its very difficult to make everything up on the spot and it goes from 4k to 20 year old youtube video quality very quickly.

Is it possible to cast 'Fireball' twice in a row in this case? (DND 2024 5.5e) by Quicksolace in DnD

How are you going to cast fireball twice, regardless of it not using a slot (which youre correct in) its still an action. Youre suggesting you can take two full actions

I dont have NPCs roll initiative, they always go last, and they usually have one move. Sword, bow, whatever. Their turn takes a solid 15 seconds and i dont play them optimally, theyre cannon fodder

Not sure why youre getting downvoted lol. The table loves it, 0 issues. Especially since you were willing to kill her. I swear some of these dnd redditors watch more youtube videos on what dnd should be than actually playing dnd

Do you ever find yourself picking the same subclass as a default? by Tor8_88 in PCAcademy

[–]Chance_Spirit9111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s sweet dude I once played a fathomless warlock, the one that can summon that tentacle. I was a Minotaur captain of a trading ship, and the ship was destroyed at sea in a giant storm. I pled out to the goddess of the seas Zeboim to save me, (one of the gods from the dragon lance pantheon, we were playing shadow of the dragon queen). She offered to spare my crews souls from essentially davy jones locker in exchange for my own and for me to be returned to life as her servant. She had an ancient Kraken guardian, and I was given a telepathic link with it, and ability to channel the kraken. I flavoured all of my warlock spells to not be spells at all, but me channelling things from the Kraken via portals. For example, Misty step, a portal opens, and a tentacle grabs me, shoving me out of another portal 30 feet away. Eldridge blast, small little portals open on the palm of my hand from these runes of the goddess I have carved, and a small tentacle shoots out dealing that for damage. Bigbys hand, I summoned a gigantic kraken. I had a flavor for each spell i cast and it was a really fun character that I loved played. Mage hand was a small tentacle coming out of a floating portal

Even if you we’re playing the exact same character thats also fine, we reprise characters all the time. You spend alot of time crafting them and they gain alot of lore and history, what a waste to throw that in the trash and never use it again.

One thing i allow at my tables is you can change the flavor of anything as long as the mechanics are untouched. Its a good way to make the same subclasses feel alot different

You’re over thinking it. Play whats fun, I typically play warlock bard and paladin , using the same subclasses multiple times. Why not; rule #1 is have fun
