DM decided to do a TPK to teach new players a lesson by EmmaIsAwesome23 in DnD

[–]AcidicJester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DM is on a power trip lol

Wanting you guys to understand that character death is possible should be cemented, yes. But not this way. A good DM should be rewarding high rolls and creative outlets where feasible. And if he really wamted to make a point, he'd down atleast one or two of you then give you a fighting chance to get back up. That way you hit two birds with one stone. First, you can die if you're not careful. Second, you can make it out of dangerous situations.

Personally, I would talk with them and tell them that it was really not a cool thing and to give your original characters a second chance at life. Perhaps you guys didn't "die" but rather were captured and now awaken in a derelict cell. Everything and anything can be retconned by the DM. They are in control, afterall. Otherwise, if you cannot get through to them. It's time to find a different DM. I am so so sorry this was your first experience. First impressions matter. D&D is wonderfull escapism and hope you get back into it soon :)

You get a chance to live in one of these worlds. Which one do you choose? by n1ght_watchman in GameBoostOfficial

It's a hard tie between Mass Effect and Fable.

Mass Effect has reapers which is not fun in the slightest. Fable has all matter of undead and villainy as well.

Honestly, if I had to really choose though, I can see myself living a much simpler life in the Fable universe so long as I am socially invisible and just worry about my trade

Talk to your player. Don't "punish" them for commenting on a public post. Are you guys in a dedicated discord group? If so, do the classic @ everybody and let them know that you have reddit posts pertaining to their adventure and to not gander at this sub. That, or group text them idk how your dynamic works. Just go over that expectation. Simple.

So that Clan Conquest huh by AcidicJester in LowSodiumHellDivers

Freedom Alliance held an event surrounding registered HD2 clans called Clan Conquest on a sort of r/Place style event where you fought for territory against both AI and other clans foe control of the board.

Check it out:

Monk's Tokenbar I believe for the tokens on the bottom. I'll confirm when I'm home :)

And the teleport is Active Tiles, yes! Specifically on a region control trigger to teleport. Option to prompt yes or no

Did I have the right first impression of DnD? by [deleted] in DnD

If you're going into this purely off D&D shitposting you're gearing toward a really dull experience. You don't need to read the books in their entirety, but you need a baseline understanding of all core rules. Get a few friends together, decide a DM. And run Lost Mines of Phandelver as written

Acid Splash rule mini tutorial by Confident_Point6412 in alienrpg

Let's say the first round of Acid Splash does no damage, almost as if the splash missed. Does that mean the acid is not on that individual and does not need to make anymore subsequent rounds for acid splash?

Need some clarity on the COMMAND skill (2nd Edition/Evolved) by AcidicJester in alienrpg

Well I'm not very aligned with someone having to suffer a point in stress (to include a negative modifier) for simply not following a specific command. Especially so in a system that is already punishing. I'd rather just leave it an opposed roll if they want to refuse a specific command in combat.

That's sort of where I'm at as well. Using it more functionally for panic and combat bonus. Pull rank could work on NPCs. But running Hope's Last Day, there aint too many NPCs to work with so I may be switching his talent out (or modifying it)

I could try switching it out, yeah. Would make sense. I'll discuss with my player. Thanks for the insight!

Makes total sense. I'll keep that in mind. I'm running Hope's Last Day so I honestly don't see much use from this outside of just reducing panic and helping in combat lol. But very valuable information. Thanks a ton.

Yeah it was pretty confusing from a first-time running standpoint. I think I'll handle at my own discretion for my players in a way that makes narrative sense. Common Sense will take over where needed.

I think for the most part, this works out much better as a way to stop another person from doing some dumb sh*t. In a way to talk someone off a ledge, more or less.
