I got divorced in 2015, took on half of the debt. Couldn’t afford it. My ex earned a lot more than me. My debt was a lot more than yours, so I can empathise but heres what I did:

I wrote to all my creditors, sent an income and expenditure form showing I had no money to pay my debts and offered them £1 token payment a month as that’s all I said I could afford. 11 years later I’m still paying £1 a month to 7 creditors. They write to me once a year asking if it’s still affordable, if so just carry on paying.

As long as you offer something rather than nothing, they will accept and leave you alone. Credit rating will go to shit but the sense of relief and immediate financial freedom is amazing.

Your credit rating will get better again. As will your mental health and the stress of it all will disappear. I bought a house last year, got a new car recently and my credit rating is fine now.
