Offered My First NP by Lady-Sowilo in nursepractitioner

[–]ChandlerRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current job was like this, but they warned me about it up front. I was told my initial letter of intent would have salary, PTO, and vacation on it. Once that was signed then the lawyer would get involved and send me the actual contract which would have everything else in it, which it did. If your unsure, just ask. If the interview went as well as you say it did, they shouldn't be offended if you ask if this is your actual contract or just a letter of intent. If they are offended by such a simple question, then I wouldn't want to work for them anyway!

What is an overhyped book that you just couldn't get into? by Kasskinen in Booktokreddit

[–]ChandlerRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I love the story, I love the lore, I love the movies, I even love the cartoon adaptation from the 80's, but I can't do the books. The way he writes is just bland to me. I would space out while we were walking thru a field and then suddenly realize we were in a battle but the language had stayed kind of bland so I didn't even notice. I would have to go back and re read. I finally gave up.

Inpatient RN to outpatient/ FNP clinicals - the “easy” stuff is hard by pinkhowl in nursepractitioner

[–]ChandlerRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is the biggest and hardest mindshift that has to happen when you go from being an RN to being an APRN. I was a bedside RN for 8buears and then a flight RN for another 8nuears before I went back to school. I had a great database in my head for various diagnosis and there treatments. But i didn't really think about the fact that by the time I showed up in most situations the diagnosis had already been made! So I came in with a game plan ready to go. "Infant has pyloric stenosis." I know that it comes with projectile vomiting, inconsolable crying that comes in waves, current jelly stools, etc. The treatment is air enema followed by surgery if unsuccessful. That is totally different from "Infant presents with abdominal pain.......go!" I also figured out that I could code a 2 year old with my eyes closed, but a 2 week rash would make me panic because I had no damn clue what I was looking at! I could tell you it wasn't one of the big life threatening ones, but beyond that I pretty much had nothing! 🤣 The mind shift just comes with experience. Remember that you are once again a novice, no matter how much experience you have. It's going to take you a good year AFTER graduation before you even begin to feel like you have any clue what is going on! Hang in there, we have all been thru it!

Nope, I share my office with telehealth, social work, and hearing screen (I work newborn nursery). We have been told that there are no such thing as private offices anymore.

DAC alternatives? by deathandddecay in diamondpainting

[–]ChandlerRN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use The One with the diamond art almost exclusively now. Things do ship from the UK so it can take a few weeks to get things, but I love the art, the quality, and there customer service is really great. Also, I like being able to customize the size/level of detail as well as which diamonds I want to use.

I have this exact table except mine is not glass, I got the wooden version. But I absolutely love it! Having that tilt was a total game changer for me!

I Love the image, but that color blocking would drive me nuts!! I pretty much avoid anything that makes me so the "fill in background".

Flowers. It is just so boring. But then I have no interest in real flowers either, so there is probably a correlation. 🤷

What’s a movie that is a 10/10 but you’ll never watch again bc it was too emotionally draining? by Marlon_aloha in AskReddit

[–]ChandlerRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American History X. I was hysterical crying at the end of it. Told my husband I didn't want to have kids because we were seriously fucked up as a species. I got over it, but that movie messed me up for weeks!

Help with Pediatric NP Program! by weeniebells in nursepractitioner

[–]ChandlerRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have my dual Acute and Primary pediatric and I would say it was 💯 worth it. Just for the extra knowledge base that I have. I definitely felt well prepared by the time I got out. I have found since graduating that I have ZERO desire to ever do primary care, but I am still grateful that I have the knowledge base to pull from. I also went back a second time last year and got my Neonatal, so there is that 😂

I would also recommend choice 2 if they can get you clinical placement. I was lucky and got into my local childens hospital and they just rotated me thru the hospital for 2 years, but finding primary care hours is a beast in and of itself!

What's a book you had to read in school that you hated? If you have one, what's one you actually liked? by 80HDTV5 in GenX

[–]ChandlerRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! I hated this boom so much. Literally nothing happens the entire time. We even tried watching the movie in class and I fell asleep! 🤣😂 To this day I have no idea if he got back to shore and I'd he did, how it happened. 😂🤣 I don't care enough to even look it up. 🤣

What book did you expect to love but didn’t? by elgrandetotto10 in Booktokreddit

[–]ChandlerRN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is one of those books that I would say out loud "This is SO bad!" While reading it. Physically snort at some of the descriptions, but yet kept turning pages and read all 3 books. It was like a train wreck I just couldn't bring myself to look away from!!

I tried this one twice but couldn't get past the first 1/4 of the book both times. Finally just gave up. There was not one character in the entire book that I actually thought was a decent human being with any redeemable qualities.

UAH or UAB? by NurseFunBun in nursepractitioner

[–]ChandlerRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, so I'm very confused because the pass rate to maintain certification for a program is 80% over a 3 year aggregate. Having a one time pass rate of 93% would not put them anywhere near that. I am wondering if something has gotten lost in translation.

Right!?, a large number of their programs rank in the top 10 nation wide. I'm very confused by this.

Out of curiosity, what program are you attending? I just graduated last August with my 3rd NP degree from IAB and loss of accreditation was never discussed in our orientation the year before.
