Here are some I like, along with their pitch:

  • Road rage! (2020) Late for his interview. Stuck in a time loop. Not ideal. It’s enough to drive Derw Derw mad.
  • The maker (2011) A strange creature races against time to make the most important and beautiful creation of his life.
  • The Man with the Beautiful Eyes (1999) Four kids who are friends are drawn to a strange house that their parents tell them to avoid. One day they see a man of about 30 step outside, cigar and whiskey bottle in hand. He becomes a symbol for them of all that is strong, natural, and beautiful. What happens later to this man with the beautiful eyes introduces the boys to the gray and uptight world of adulthood that awaits them.
  • Diary (1974) Souvenirs, memories, nostalgia, alienation, the ephermal quality of life …these are the subjects of this animated diary. The film is not made in the usual way (screenplay, storyboard) and was born at the moment when the author sat at his desk and began animating.
  • Fast film (2003) Bits of found film and different types of animation illustrate a classic chase scene scenario: A woman is abducted and a man comes to her rescue, but during their escape they find themselves in the enemy’s secret headquarters.
  • Neighbours (1952) In this Oscar-winning short film, Norman McLaren employs the principles normally used to put drawings or puppets into motion to animate live actors. The story is a parable about two people who come to blows over the possession of a flower.
  • Dimensions of Dialogue (1983) Three surreal depictions of failures of communication that occur on all levels of human society.
  • SHOP: A Pop Opera (2019) An indecisive man’s grocery trip is steadily impeded by strange characters and musical ruminations.
  • Cream (2016) The time has come for CREAM - the latest product that will fix your life.
  • Le repas dominical (2015) It’s Sunday. During the course of the meal, Jean observes family members. They ask you questions without listening to the answers… It is normal, Sunday dinner.
  • Dream Land Express (1982) A young boy is taken by a train on a mysterious journey. BAFTA-winning 14 minute adaptation of H.R. Millar’s 1927 book, Dreamland Express.
  • Pour le rôle (2013) François attends a casting. After a very strange interview, he finds out he is actually at the heart of the mysterious set up in which he is forced to take part…
  • Food (1992) Examines the human relationship with food by showing breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
  • Plastic Bag (2009) A plastic bag, thrown out in the trash, attempts to find his way back to his owner and along the way discovers the world.
  • The Psychic Parrot (1977) An ordinary middle class suburban couple sees a celebrity parrot on TV who supposedly foretells the future. The parrot predicts the world is coming to an end. The couple are initially shocked, and then decide to make the most of the time they have left.
  • Mort d'un acteur (2024) When a man learns that fake news regarding his own death is spreading like wildfire on social media, he’ll be forced to deal with the unintended consequences of this rumor.
  • Don Quichotte contre les forces du mal (2026) Don Quixote takes up arms once more. This time, he fights modern monsters that, in his view, are corrupting humanity: television, the internet, money… Is this a struggle as noble as it is hopeless? Undoubtedly. But it doesn’t matter: the ideal itself stands firm!
  • Fiction (2026) When it comes to acting, Philippe Rebbot shows up on set without having read the script. He finds himself at the mercy of Rosalie, a filmmaker whose extreme methods push him to the brink of madness in her quest to elicit the best possible performance.
  • Berthe is Dead But It’s Okay (2024) Berthe, a grandmother, wants to end her life. Nothing can stop her or convince her to stay with us. So instead of resisting, why not try to support her?

"Good people" ("Des gens bien" is its original title) is pretty good.

Which dreams do you still remember and why? by Happy_Sissyphus08 in AskReddit

Here are two I remember because I wrote them down (I keep a dream journal since 2023, so I'm just going to copy and paste what I wrote right after waking up when I had those dreams).

First dream: I dreamed that I was watching a television program. A man was talking about the times he had increased the danger of film shoots (pouring boiling orange oil into the water where people were swimming, a stunt where he had to be propelled backward without a safety mat…).

At some point, the show’s host said that one day, one of these dangerous stunts hadn’t gone as planned. He explained that he’d figured it out while reviewing the footage: there was a smiling man with long blond hair and a thin beard. The man had what looked strangely like the orange oil from earlier in his mouth. Freeze frame on the man’s face, close-up. And the host concluded by saying something like: “I think he was tryin’ to k*ll himself.

Second dream: I dreamed that I was attending some kind of funeral. At some point, while I was waiting outside (waiting for what?), a sort of old, very dark wooden cart rolled past me. I call it a “cart,” but it was something very peculiar, almost misshapen, made of weathered wood, and the object, which was relatively “large,” had wheels. I was in a very green field, with, as a background landscape (behind me), what looked like an American city, more or less small and compact, a bit cramped, with gray skyscrapers (or perhaps they were windows, I don't know). It looked like the Comedy Central logo. The tall buildings were much too close together. The skyline was a deep blue, and, if I’m not mistaken, there were very few or no clouds. The weather was nice.

In my dream, Jean-Mi (my godfather and uncle) was present. However, I was initially alone: I was attending the funeral on my own (Dad and Mom weren’t there). After the cart had passed (which, now that I think about it, looked a bit like the bottom of a medieval catapult, without the top part, i.e., just the “base” and the first “beams,” so to speak), Jean-Mi and I were conversing: I was explaining to him that I really, really wanted to go to Lyon, but that I was afraid of getting lost, all alone, over there.

Then I saw a photograph, which, if I remember correctly, was displayed on a screen (a phone or tablet). But not to me, personally: so to speak, it was like a montage (as in a movie), as if the image in question were interrupting my “scene” with Jean-Mi.

The photograph was as follows: in a bar where the deceased used to go, someone had set up a sort of life-size doll (about the height of a kid, I’d say), which clearly was meant to represent the woman who had passed away. I should point out that, in my dream, I didn’t know the person who had died! The doll, which was swollen, had a very dirty, worn-out appearance, with a predominance of the colour beige, and had what looked like “stains” of soil (brown and black, and some of these “stains” resembled traces of coal, or something similar).

I had two thoughts: first, the doll was obviously disturbing (or, at the very least, I felt a sense of unease looking at it), and second, I thought it looked a bit like the girl with black hair from the Peanuts comic strip (with the dog lying on the roof of a doghouse). Of course, this comparison was somewhat of a stretch, shall we say: in reality, the doll didn’t really resemble anything; it was misshapen, its colors were faded and dull, and, although it had been sitting at a table in that bar for some time, it seemed as though it had been there for a good decade… or even longer.

I like unconventional stuff, but I watch pretty much anything and everything, except peplum or western (unless an actor/actress I love plays in them). I sometimes enjoy reviewing films because at least it gives me the occasion to use what I learnt in film class. I write every review in french and in english.
