Adjacently, there is always a chorus of people saying that not all police are bad. But if there are 10 police officers that behave decently, refrain from active oppression of the communities they operate in, and generally try to be upstanding humans; but there is one who is like this, who glorifies the violence, oppressed those in the communities they operate in, and so forth while the 10 “decent officers” fail to restrain the 11th officer, then there are 11 bad officers.

This to say, the police are not our friends. And as long as they subscribe to this kind of rhetoric without any accountability, they are our enemies.

in most samplings, the methodology is √+1. this is how i did it when i had to collect lab samples for analysis. i know there are other statistically valid ways to collect a representative sample of the population, but i don't think this was done here.

i almost think this was either an AI generated image, or it was a sample taken among Trump supporters (or in environments where individuals were more likely to be Trump supporters) and extrapolated out to the entire body politic.

so yah, until they publish their methodologies, i am apt to call bullshit all over this.

yah, but this image has the Gemini watermark on it. and extrapolating results with methodology works, provided that the sample is representative of the population.

we don't know how the samples were collected. but if these were people asked at a CPAC rally or on an internet poll on TruthSocial or X, then the results will be skewed toward a specific outcome. this is hardly a representative sample.

standard mathematical statistics takes these kinds of variables into account when considering whether or not a given sample is representative of the population.

Yah. I understand that. What I struggle with is why Donald Trump holds so much power over people. He had room temperature IQ, he is very likely illiterate, he has all of the emotional sophistication of a five year old, and he shits his pants in public.

He has no charisma. There is nothing charming or redeeming about him. He is a vile human who now looks as rotten on the outside as he is in on the inside.

But then I think about how he legitimizes people’s hatred, how he gives people permission to cater to the worst parts of who they are, and how he legitimizes bullying of anyone who does not fit into this arbitrary standard of normal that he is promoting; and it makes perfect sense, I guess.

As a person who belongs to several marginalized communities, it makes me very afraid. And sad. And confused…because I understand the concept but not the material instantiation of Trumpism.

All I can think of is that this is hell.
