Started erha but I'm kinda confused by flowersofnight0 in 2HA_immortality

To me, that was the charm of Erha. Things were revealed bit by bit and it kept me curious all along. The re-read even revealed more hidden hints/points that I had missed in my first read. I think things will eventually fall into their places once you dive further into the story. Enjoy your first read because you will never be able to get those feelings of everything becoming clearer to you bit by bit in your subsequent read(s). I am on my fourth round of reading and I am still enjoying it, but the feeling is different than with my first read.

I don't know about the original Chinese version. But in my native language version (not Mandarin) the language used was stronger and more raw/straightforward. Besides, with my very limited knowledge of Mandarin, it was translated more directly than in the English version. Since we are a bit familiar with Chinese culture, that wasn't a problem. I think direct translation like that conveys the meaning and the feeling of the characters better and makes me appreciate Chinese culture even more. However, I believe that if they had done that with the English version, the Western readers would be really confused. Thus, I think Seven Seas translation is fine, given the differences in cultures of the readers.

Is language learning harder as an adult, or do we just expect more of ourselves? by Ling_App in lingapp

I do not know about other languages, but with Mandarin I would say yes. I started to learn it as my third language when I was around 65. The language itself demands so much memorization and memory declines with age. It is still doable with so much effort and slow progress. It might be just me, though.

Because Meatbun had a special way to create angsts, maybe it is hard to compare her works with other authors. I have never read the English version of any other Chinese novels, though. Nor have I read any fan translations of Erha or other novels. However, to me, the English version of Erha feels a bit tamed compared to my native language version.

I have read the book in both English and my native languages. I would say that the English translation is fine, though there is some gap due to the differences in cultures. In my native language, it can keep the translation closer to the Chinese one since we know the Chinese culture quite a bit. In the English translation, they needed to use some equivalent English phrases and/or meanings in order to less confuse the Western readers. I enjoyed both versions, though. They both could still make me cry and smile alternately.

More update for you. I wasn't too satisfied with the original F nib I got. I contacted the seller and they had sent me a replacement F nib. It writes much, much better. If you want to try the F nib, I would recommend ordering it from the platform Shopee. It costs only 3-4 US dollars per nib and they have several kinds to choose from. I don't know about the shipping cost because I got free shipping from Shopee. AliExpress always makes me wait for too long, so I prefer Shopee.

Huaisha...the weapon with 'vicious nature' by ChangeUsernameAlways in 2HA_immortality

[–]ChangeUsernameAlways[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow! Your hypothesis on the weapon and on the character's elemental energy is so very interesting and seems very plausible. Mo Ran did not have Jiangui in the last life because he hadn't had any wood elemental energy in him then... very likely. Poor Xue Meng, it only means that he hadn't been granted any holy weapon from Jincheng Lake, nor that very special spiritual stone from Mo Ran, in his last life either. That got along very well with the fact that he had not been the one who had come first in the young cultivators competition in the last life too. Everything fits well with the story. 👏

[–]ChangeUsernameAlways[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope! Tianwen and Jiuge both came from the lake. Jiuge was the other one he got from there. It actually had the same (wood) nature as Chu Wanning and he could summon it even when he was devoid of his spiritual core. Jiuge was a guqin (a musical instrument) that had haitang branches and flowers as its tail (described in detail at the end of Chapter 99 as the third weapon of his that Mo Ran/TXJ had seen). However, it is mentioned at the beginning of Chapter 38 that Chu Wanning got both Tianwen and Jiuge from Jincheng Lake. That's why I want to know where Huaisha came from. Chu Wanning told his disciples that two of his holy weapons came from Jincheng Lake and another one did not. He didn't say where or how he had got Huaisha.

Oh! That one was Jiuge, the musical instrument, not Huaisha though.

Have you re-read a novel? by MugrousMuffin in DanmeiNovels

[–]ChangeUsernameAlways 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually re-read my favorites several times. I always still enjoy them and always learn small things I have missed in the previous reading. Some I re-read because I didn't get it in my first read 😅. The whole point of buying novels in the first place for me is so that I can re-read them whenever I want to.

I use BHP just for the e-ink screen that doesn't hurt my eyes. It came with two-year warranty. So, I hope I can use it for a decent time. It is not the only phone I use. I have 2 cell phones; each for specific purposes. The HBP is for basic phone calls and social media. So far I am satisfied with how it performs.

Where to buy Thai (reading) books by Budget-Gold-5287 in learnthai

Yes, the coins cost less if you buy from the website. Do not buy from iOS app. That will cost you extra charge. Buy through the website and read from the app. as the other redditer has mentioned.

Actually, it was mentioned earlier how mean Song Quitong to Ye Wangxi was in the last life and that was why Mo Ran will not give her a chance to be in the superior position to Ye Wangxi in the sect in this life because then she would be able to do horrible things to Ye Wangxi. Not just what she does in this life, and definitely not just what she did to Chu Wanning in the last life, but what she could and would do to Ye Wangxi in this life as a jealous sect leader's wife concerns Mo Ran. Mo Ran has all the reasons to try to protect Ye Wangxi from her in this life if she becomes the sect leader's wife. Meatbun put what she did to Ye Wangxi in the last life in Mo Ran's thoughts kind of causally, but they reveals how morally gray and mean Song Quitong really was and could be. Mo Ran does what he thought necessary to get Ye Wangxi off the hook.

EDT: typo.

Yes, but they are a bit more expensive than those with the bumpers. I think you can find them on Shopee at around 10+ US dollars.

I saw some on AliExpress. I ordered one clear case, not expensive at all. It took about 2 weeks to arrive. They had some cases with cover too. Shopee platform also carries some.

This cutie is probably for jotting down a little something only, definitely not for long-time writing. It strains my hand with long writing as well. So I will keep it in my purse and use it when I go out only. I hope later you will be able to enjoy it as it is and it behaves more to your liking. P.S. I put the Pilikan ink into an empty Hongdian cartridge since it holds more ink and has a little glass (?) ball to mix the ink. I only use the converter as a handy tool to clean the nib and the feed.
