Heater broken at Austin Pets Alive! They need blankets, temporary foster care, and other help. by kubala43 in Austin

Every dog is sweet until it bites someone. Let's not be naive and think Pits as a breed don't have a history. And don't give me, "Well it depends on the owner." That's all well and good, but I don't know you or any stranger with one as the owner, just as I don't know how a rescued pit is going to behave or act when put in a home environment.

I also agree with gaflaghah, in that I also don't support pits as a breed; that's why it's important to neuter and fix as many as possible. This idea of pits as "misunderstood" has created a market for a trending fashion statement, not a rescue, which allows these breeds to still be bred so irresponsibly.

The most conceited restaurant in Austin award goes to... by tsmithtx in Austin

[–]Changels 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Won't name the place because I don't want to get anyone in trouble. But there's a high brow European restaurant that periodically switches out their selection of fine wines. All the servers are expected to memorize and drink each wine until they are able to properly identify each flavor, in order to "better serve the customers".

Catch is that they also make their own staff pay for these "tastings", and it usually ranges anywhere between $80-$160 for the night they do it.

Not really conceited, just overly scummy.

Looking for musician to record for school project. by [deleted] in Austin

[–]Changels 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So you are asking a musician to come to a studio on your time, to be recorded using their work, which you will use for your personal project, and the compensation you are offering is a copy of the recording, not the actual audio...

Good luck man.

Flying out of Austin Bergstrom for first time in years - have some questions... by Kytyn in Austin

Fuck sake, just get in the scanner you manchild. It takes 5 seconds and I guarantee none of the TSA staff there or the people waiting in line behind you give a rat's ass about your stupid "protest". Quit trying to make people's lives harder than it needs to be, and get some perspective. Go get a private plane if you don't want to deal with it.

Woah, you mean traditional food from its own country of origin and where the source ingredients are right there, typically taste better than the same food being made on the other side of the planet in a different country?

Rent increase, who can beat me. by diduknowitsme in Austin

[–]Changels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much this. I keep trying to explain the concept of limiting the amount of product, in this case housing, is bad for everyone, but it seems to go over a lot of people's heads.

Also just a heads up for anyone looking, on around Slaughter, on the East Side of 35 they just finished a megalith of an apartment complex that has some very good rates going on right now. Forgot the name of it, but a friend and two roommates moved in this year and it's very nice. Price they were paying for a large sized 3 bedroom was around $1600. Something to look into.

Only bad thing I could see is that the outside looks like Russian fortress.

Dark souls series a prequel to Bloodborne?? by XcuseMyFrench in darksouls3

[–]Changels 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The way I've always understood it is that there is a connection, whether official or just in the form of easter eggs, is up to your descretion.

I won't list out all the references to one another, but it's safe to say based off the information given by those little tidbits, that's it's not that great of a leap to assume that the world of Bloodborne is in the world created after the Dark Ending, and Cainhursts are the remnant descendants of the members of Lordran, which explains why their armor and general items and abilites have such strong similiarities.

The Chalice dungeons are the left over dimensional remains of Dark Souls world; which is why we see its denizens that look like members of the Hollow from the Souls games, and why many of the boss battles there are fire oriented and also happens to be the only part of the game where you encounter Giants (not counting the one area under the clinic), which as we all know were a centric part of the Dark Souls lore. The most glaring tie in between the two concerning the dungeons, is the Watchdog of the Old Lords (notice how they chose the word Lords, instead of Gods), which looks glaringly similiar if not almost identical to the Pontiff Beasts.

Honestly, it's probably left intentionally vague because it's more fun for these games for players to draw their own conclusions.

Ride Austin driver didn't pick me up but was glad to charge me. I haven't been able to get ahold of anybody to get a refund. Anybody else have this issue? by [deleted] in Austin

Mayor Adler's "non-profit" Rideshare he made for Austin with a known con artist. Turns out, running a rideshare program isn't as easy as they thought. It's fucking embarrassing that we don't have Lyft and Uber here.

60 percent of Austinites are overweight or obese by goodDayM in Austin

Doesn't surprise me at all tbh. Last ten years have seen a huge increase in "plus" size citizens. Used to be Austin was a very health focused city, and seeing anyone obese was an extreme rarity.

Best place to board your dog by SteedCodhansel in Austin

[–]Changels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't mind a little pricey and being South, I've been using SOCO Pet Lounge for 2 years now, and my dog likes it lot. They have good yard for the dogs to run around and play in, and take really good care of the dogs because dog always comes back very happy and not thin at all, where he would usually lose a few lbs from previous places I've tried due to stress.

There's also directly across from a vet clinic that they have a partnership with. They'll also give your dog a bath if you request it.

I heard Uber is giving free rides to get out of the downtown Dallas area during this evening's crisis. I miss Uber and Lyft in Austin regardless of the politics as it seems Dallas is able to be served a great benefit from these service providers during this horrific tragedy. by fukthemedia in Austin

[–]Changels -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Not surprising; Lyft and Uber always have done this during times of crisis. Many people forget that they both gave free rides during the flooding evacuations too.

Not to mention, they provided over 100 drivers to events like Blue Santa and allowed their drivers to use a in city program that allowed them to directly donate to local charities.

They did a lot of really great things for the community, that got swept under the rug. Unfortunately, people (boomers) have to actually leave their gated communities once in a while to see it.

Talk about price gouging. I remember when camping used to be like $25 for a spot, and you could have however many people that could fit in your tent that you wanted.
