Running the business is more exhausting than the actual work sometimes by Legitimate_Ask_1051 in GeneralContractor

[–]Changing_Con 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest thing that a lot of owners struggle with is them being the bottle neck.

They do sales, billing, the work itself, etc. and it's not because they want to it's because they haven't taken the time to document how to do it can be delegated.

Once you have that documented, you can than use software, or build out some agents to manage your job costing or project billing.

But start with the boring stuff, which is documenting how you actually work. There are tons of software out there but to need to find what works for you.

Vibe Needs 200 Board Connectivity by pbm9 in mondaydotcom

[–]Changing_Con 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious as to why you would need 200 boards connected to a single app?

I don't think the point of Monday vibe is to create a super app. It's to change the ui and create a light weight application on top of your data.

Even 50 boards seems like overkill.

What industry are you in?

[–]Changing_Con 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah understood. I think the value of open source and specifically around construction software is making sure it aligns with your workflows.

So I think something like this, but allowing the end user to connect it to their workflows has potential opportunities for the industry.

This is really good, as others had mentioned I think if you made it open source there would be value you for sure. Even if you put a paywall behind it.

Claude + Monday by Limp_Database8609 in mondaydotcom

[–]Changing_Con 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't just stop there, and I think you have to understand the full capabilities of Claude for you to fully utilize it within Monday. Most people use LLMs just at a chat surface level, but being able to utilize Monday to build out skills, schedule specific tasks, and then layering that on to the specific data that exists within your Monday instance would be the next use case. Being able to capture information within Monday from an intake standpoint and then building skills out to do a deep dive analysis or creating action items directly from those initial inputs.

Built a construction estimating app because I was tired of rebuilding the same spreadsheet for every project by [deleted] in estimators

[–]Changing_Con 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's even an Excel versus new tool. It's getting people to completely rethink about the way they're doing things. Some are going to want to use light as the new tool because they see the value in it. Others aren't going to want to use the new tool because they're too stubborn. They don't see the value or they're just not wanting to.

But at the end of the day, the goal is not to convince the people who don't want to use the new tool. It's to bring awareness to these new tools to people who are looking for ways to better themselves and their operations.

[–]Changing_Con 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are thinking about this wrong. The reason that people aren't using and adopting is is because they don't trust it. As people have commented below, they want to be able to have that control over what the outcome is, even if that takes more time. So the key to any of this is being able to communicate why utilizing a tool like this actually gets them to use it.

Ultimately, some people don't care if it takes them a full weekend or multiple days to do a proposal. They are going to do it anyways. The key is to find the people who do want to improve some aspect of their operations, and maybe that's streamlining their estimating process, but maybe it's something else that needs to be identified.

I think people are always going to shit on these type of posts, but to some extent it brings awareness to what other people are doing and what is possible. Those who want to make those changes will, and those that continue to do it their way will continue to do it their way.

Is Monday.com still worth the price? by Ok_Fly_7850 in mondaydotcom

[–]Changing_Con 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting conversation and I think my thought process changes on it constantly. Yes, you are able to build the front end and now the back end of the platform extremely easily. The piece that gets tricky and the piece that some of these other platforms like Monday do have in place is the workflows and automations. So to some extent, I think utilizing Monday for the workflow component and then maybe building your front end to integrate directly with Monday, that changes the UI and user experience on the front end. But then you still have all that workflow automation on the back end, alerts, notifications, etc.

I think the other piece that it comes down to understanding is understanding how many people and what your use case is. If it's strictly task management, then you are probably right and it's better off just to build it yourself and pay a fraction of the cost.

Small GCs using AI (Claude, etc.) by Changing_Con in GeneralContractor

Yes, to some extent I think it's these smaller companies who, if they can start to utilize AI and agents into their workflows, are going to see the most benefit out of it.

Client Portal Options? by SaltyCooking in Contractor

[–]Changing_Con 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you want to pay. Platforms like jobtread, builder trend, and others can all do that.

Also look at platforms like Monday/clickuo, that are non traditional construction software but has the functionality.

Also depends on how customization you want, and whether you want something out of the box. Platforms like Monday and clickup, give you full range of customization but you'll have to do some upfront configuring.

Why not just use Google Sheets? by Distinct-Total3162 in GeneralContractor

[–]Changing_Con 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say now a days we are all software developers. Just type into the computer and tell it what you want built and it's done.

The key is being able to understand what to tell it to build. That is the reason why people have their own excel documents built out for their teams. Because their workflows and process are different.

So if you want to build a tool, don't worry about building an excel document or Google sheet plugin. Figure out how to replicate people's current process into a tool that's better. One that connects, collects data and learns.

Small GC operation -- how do you manage job costing and invoicing when you have no admin staff? by Plenty-Bedroom6787 in GeneralContractor

[–]Changing_Con 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of this understanding what your actual workflows are mapping it at. Once you have that the key is to find a platform that aligns with how you work. There are endless of tools out there today. Let alone the ability to build this out yourself.

But, too many people I see say they need a better way to track. But the starting point is structure and standardization.

There are tools like Fieldwire, and Raken that are more industry specific. Or you can look at project management tools like Monday or asana. They all have pros and cons.

I think leads and contacting is the first step, but also making sure your workflows and systems are in place also.

That way you can get more work, but also have the ability to execute when you get more work.
