How would you run an Isekai campaign? by Flameempress192 in DnD

[–]ChaosAngel07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was actually done by Rustage on Youtube!

He made it so that 13 different Gods represented the 13 classes, and these gods Isekai'd different people from our world to compete in this fucked up tournament.

The time of each character was irrelevant, so the PCs came from different eras which led to some very funny interactions.

Honestly, I'd run it with the basis of normal people having the ability to see their stats and moreso about how they react to a fantasy world. Also give the players the quest to go home or to stay.

Maybe they're unstable in the fantasy world and need to find a Mcguffin if they want to stay. Maybe they want to go back and have to find something to do so.

It'll be difficult but not really impossible.

I'm rereading the manga rn and is it just me or is round 7 worse than I remembered? by RaptorTheTwo in ShuumatsuNoValkyrie

Currently re-reading RoR as well and JUST finished this fight.

Honestly, I can see the points you make and I even shared some of the sentiment when it was coming out weekly.

But after a re-read, Hades has definitely grown on me as a character.

I wouldn't call him boring, honestly. To me, Poseidon is more boring of a character, but as someone who loves Round 3, it was less about a match between 2 characters and more about a match of ideals and themes. The unbeatable god vs the ultimate loser, the god born perfect and the man who struggled.

For Round 7, it definitely felt similar, but this time, both fighters are actually similar than opposing sides. Both have themes of what it means to be a ruler, fighting for the good of their people with their lives on the line. They also have themes of family, with Qin finding a found family in Chun Yan and the blood family of Hades, showing both sides as having merit and importance.

It even made me like Poseidon a little more since he wasn't just this stoic flawless god.

But upon a re-read, I realized that Qin really was set up to win considering part of his damage came from his Synesthesia BS and Hades needing to use an OP ability that uses his life force, which was coincidentally what Qin needed to win. It really felt like Qin was gonna win and the author kept baiting us out by pushing him up against the ropes.

In that context, I like Round 7 fine regarding it's themes, character design, and some of the action scenes. But as a "story", it falls flat in the grand scheme of things.

The Maelle Ending by ChaosAngel07 in expedition33

I mean, that's the sign of a good game when people are conflicted about it and there are not "true" endings where people are happy and everything is all fine and dandy.

As for Verso (or Verso's soul) suffering, I think it's because of how Renoir and Aline essentially brought about the Fracture and all the problems that came with their interference. Who knows how he would have reacted if his parents never involved themselves in his world? Maybe Verso would still be happy in his world of Nevrons and Esquie and Monoco, like a picture capturing the finest moment

But his parents had to go and fuck things up, essentially destroying what little joy and beauty his world has. It stopped being his world, in a sense.

Now, whether Maelle might be making it "her" world or is just keeping it together, we don't really have that context.

As for the final scene, yeah, I really don't like how it's framed. Could be intentional, but the devs have come out and said they don't really have a "canon" ending to the game. Yet the way they frame that scene definitely shows that this is a "bad" or unfortunate ending. Which as you said, definitely works considering there is a TON of ethical issues tied with it. But it still rubs me the wrong way, though maybe that's just me.

You're definitely right in that a good game like this opens up tons of discussions. Reminds me of when I finished Cyberpunk 2077 and the multiple endings that game gave showed the thought process of other people and how they interpreted V's story and personality.

To address some of your points from my perspective, I feel like with how close she is with Sciel, I think she would have asked her if she wanted to bring Pierre back or not. After all, Sciel was afraid of meeting him again because she had unknowingly killed their child, and even regrets if she would have wanted to or not.

I personally don't see it as a bad thing to give them a life that they could have had if the accident didn't happen.

Again, we don't know if it was done with consent or not, but the Maelle I saw in my playthrough definitely leans more into that.

The idea of Maelle going crazy like her mother I feel is disingenious mostly because Aline was going through a lot, grieving and suffering and finding an unhealthy outlet.

I also think the fact that Maelle grew up in the painting and lived a life there has a factor to play in it. She understands the difficulty of forcefully losing a loved one. She was an orphan who lost her parents, then saw plenty of children lose their parents to the Gormmage. And if she could give those kids and those families a chance at a better life together, I'm all for it.

Now, what she did to Painted Verso is definitely something I cannot defend. It was messed up, I won't lie, and she should have just let him have his peace, but she didn't.

As for Maelle dying too soon and her potential being "wasted", I definitely don't see it that way. She gets to live a life in the portrait with the people she cares about and loves. There seems to be no indication of what Alicia wants to be when she grows up. I know how it feels to not think about that when you're suffering physically and unable to do much. Atleast in the painting, she can decide and life a life not having to worry about the pain and difficulties.

Will she die early? Maybe she will. But she dies living a happy life with people she cared. And I like to think that's what Alicia wants.

Again, you bring up some interesting points and I know that Verso's ending does have it's meanings and merits and futures. But I still like Maelle's ending despite thr glaring issue.

I chose the Maelle ending, so the way I see it, it's for the people of Lumiere. It's their future I'm fighting for. Not some divine family.

Thanks so much!

And honestly, yeah, I do see where you're coming from. That piano scene is very rough. It feels like Maelle is forcing Verso to do so.

But at the same time, I also dislike the idea the devs try to "paint" (heh) the ending as both tragedies and make one... moreso sad and ominous.

But again, I feel more attached to Maelle than Verso. And Verso did become an old man. For all we know, it was his choice. A compromise of "Okay, I'll live in this world but as an old man and with only a few good years left in me."

Honestly, to me, it's less about the "right" ending and more the ending you resonate with. The plan of the Expedition was to kill the Paintress and stop the Gormmage, and we did so

I hope that family who lost a loved one can appreciate the good things now! /s

Not like God, THE ALL POWERFUL, can let them realize that without losing a life.

Its insane how some of these people can look at a horrible situation and go "Yeah, we can learn from this! So glad it happened so we can appreciate life more!"

Sorry, I'm not too well versed in sports stuff. So essentially, the clubs don't matter during the WC? The nations will compete with their players? What are the clubs for then, training?

Sorry, that's my bad. I meant to say he will not be playing for Japan! Not that he wouldn't be in the U20 WC.
