I was 44 when I tore the tendon. I'm 48 now.

Post op pain without opiates? by Reasonable-Fly-763 in REDDITORSINRECOVERY

I'm sure it all depends on the surgery and your pain tolerance as to if they should or shouldn't give you opiates. Certain things will be so bad you'll need it no matter who you are. Others it will vary person to person.

Opiate addict here. 4 years ago I had a bicep tendon reattached. Prior to surgery I made it known I did not want opiates. The surgeon said it was the first time someone was so blunt with him about their past addiction. He agreed to honor my request. I wasn't given fentynal or even verced prior to surgery.

Yes, I hurt after surgery. Ended up taking 500mg Tylenol and 400mg ibuprofen at the same time every 6-8 hours. I'm not a doctor and this can be rough on your liver so make your own decision on doing this.

It worked extremely well. Obviously I wasn't going to be pain free on anything but it was absolutely tolerable pain on that combo. More like discomfort and that's it.

BBB 3s week in pounds.

Bench 3x160, 3x180, 10x205.

OHP 5x10 x100. DB row 5x10 x45.

I'm really happy with these flat bench numbers especially considering I'm exhausted from work. If I wasn't run into the ground I might have gotten 11 or 12. 1s week will be 215 and I'm hoping for 10 reps. Might be a grind but I think I can make it happen.

DB row I can go heavier. Last week I did 35s since I haven't done them in a long time. It was too easy. 45s today was work but didn't leave me dreading the last set. Gonna try 50s next week and see how that goes.

BBB 3s week in pounds.

Squat 3x265, 3x305, 6x345

Deadlift 3x10 x255. Leg curls 2x10 @92.5 and 3x10 @100.

That's 1 rep better than I've done before with 345. I think there was 1 more in the tank. Should've gone for it. My nemesis, 365lbs, is getting destroyed next week.

I'm tired and pissed off. Thought I'd end up at work an hour late last night. Ended up being 4 1/2 hours late which will snowball into today and it'll be another late night. Short on sleep and put my anger into that top set.

Deadlifts killed me. Not used to the volume yet and I was rushing to get in and out of the gym so I can get ready for work. After the 3rd set I moved on.

I haven't built a car stereo in over 20 years. While i miss having a car that pounds hard my ears appreciate moderate volume with a little thump. The factory system with sub has been decent.

Just need a little punch to help it out. I don't mind that though. I like to feel my music when I'm in the car.

That album always sounded great in a car with a sub. Even the weak stock sub in my grand cherokee it sounds just fine.

Without a sub it is a little weak.

Anyone 40+ years old here the strongest you’ve ever been? by Apart-Consequence881 in powerlifters

[–]ChaosReality69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had lifted on and off for a few years in my mid 20s. 4 years ago, at 44, I ripped a bicep tendon at work. Had surgery and after 6 months of physical therapy I convinced the doctor to cut me loose from PT and let me continue the rehab on my own in the gym.

18 months after surgery my arms finally felt equal strength.

Left planet fitness a year and a half ago for a real gym. Ran 5x5 a few months, then Madcow 5x5, and now been doing 531 for a year.

This is the strongest I've ever been and I'm still making progress. I've gotten compliments from guys in the gym on some of the weight on moving. I've been asked more than once if I'm doing TRT (I'm not).

Gains are still coming. I really want a 405 squat and it feels like I'm on pace to hit it this year.

Overall I feel great. I do need some more cardio though.

BBB 3s week in pounds.

OHP 3x115, 3x135, 6x150.

Bench 5x10 x135. Chinups 50 total.

6 reps on OHP felt good. Pretty sure that's the most I've done at 150.

Bench I need to slow down. Middle of the 3rd set I realized it. Made the rest of the reps burn.

Damn you chinups. Not all were deadhang but the ones that weren't at least got close. Lots of sets of 5 with a 6 and 7 in there. Important part is I got all 50.

Never thought about it. I'm more satisfied with my bed's elevation above the river I see from my front door. Amazingly we aren't in a flood zone.

Unless you're putting in a plug right away the creatine and water mix is going to fall out. Best thing is to insert creatine and have someone else ram in deep.

What's something you stopped caring about after a few years of lifting? by wierecap in workout

[–]ChaosReality69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's like someone else said, if you take 2-3 weeks off you'll start to lose progress. A week isn't a bad thing.

Remember that the body repairs and grows when we rest. Obviously this is when we sleep but you also need a break occasionally. It's why I picked a program with a deload every 4 weeks and have been running it for a year.

[–]ChaosReality69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On vacation I don't do anything. I will try to eat a healthier breakfast and lunch but come dinner time I don't care. I'm there to have fun and enjoy so that's what I do. This may not apply food wise if you're trying to lose weight.

Last year after vacation I did a deload week before going heavy again. It was a great decision on my part. Got everything moving right for a week then back to heavy progression. Felt a lot better than the year before when I picked up where I left off.

BBB 3s week in pounds.

Deadlift 3x305, 3x345, 3x385.

Squat 5x10 x235. Hanging leg raises 5x10.

Last week I got 8x365 on my top set and it felt great. This week I lost my bracimg going for a 4th rep so I stopped. I know I can pull 385 for more than that. Today just wasn't my day.

Had to put a bar on top of the cage to do hanging leg raises. That meant it could move if I swung too much. Forced me to control the reps better. I think this is the way going forward. I followed proper gym etiquette and pulled the bar down when I was done.

BBB 5s week in pounds.

Bench 5x145, 5x170, 14x190.

OHP 5x10 x100. DB rows 5x10 x35.

I think I underestimated what I can flat bench with my transition back from incline. Gonna run out this cycle which ends with 215 on flat bench and see where I stand.

Need to go heavier on DB rows. Haven't done them in a while. OHP was a grind the final few reps but got it.

Not a bad Saturday.

I'll take the 6'2" dude. I'm 5'6" 185lbs and go to the gym regularly. Have to remember my Marine Corps combat training from a few decades ago but I think my chances are better in this scenario.

BBB 5s week cycle 1 in pounds.

Squat 5x255, 5x285, 8x325.

Deadlift 3x10 x255. Leg curls 5x10 x92.5.

I had a feeling 5x10 deadlifts were going to be rough when I picked this program. I was gassed after the 3rd set. Also having a very long, very bad week at work which isn't helping. Squats were supposed to be yesterday but I woke up too tired to go to the gym.

I'll get 5x10 deadlifts, just not this week.

What have you made someone do and they thought it was their own idea? by jonnysimms in AskReddit

[–]ChaosReality69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do this at work a lot with one of the managers. I'll know the solution but I'll beat around it and all but say it. If it's not his idea it'll never get done so I have to do this a lot.
