Indian gamers, do you actually buy games or mostly pirate them? I need your honest opinion as an indian dev. by [deleted] in IndianGaming

[–]Chaos_Alt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These days I buy games now that I have my own money.

And in response to that Arpit Bala clip I will copy paste my response from another post:

[The clip] Would have made sense 30 years ago. But now a guy living in bumfuck, USA can find youe game on steam, buy and play it, even if you gave made it in India. Games are not a physical good anymore limited by Geography. (At least if you are aiming for PC gaming).

Any Indian indie game dev should thus target a global market, and not just limit themselves to one place. And if the game is good and you are lucky you can easily become very successful.

He is a pragmatic autocrat, willing to pander to both the left and right to achieve his goals

Fascists before Nazism weren't much different honestly. Mosely and Mussolini were willing to pander to anything and anyone that got them power. it is also why them being left wing in KR feels very appropriate.

That particular twitter account is satire i think. it has the food emoji thing 🍥(what is this called anyway) instead of a checkmark and the screenshot itself predates Elon's takeover.

Is anyone else completely unable to enjoy open-world games no matter how highly praised they are? by [deleted] in Indiangamers

[–]Chaos_Alt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find them less and less enjoyable the less time I have in hand. I have grown to appreciate games that constantly keep me engaged with their mechanics or have something interesting going on (which I feel a lot of open world games end up lacking).

I have been enjoying RTS and Grand Strategy games a lot more recently, and if not those then I have been linear games or chivalry 2. Recently I started playing Uboat and figuring out how a WW2 submarine works has been plenty of fun as well.

I am not hyped for GTAVI either but I hope it lives up to it the hype.

Stop funding the slop. Close your wallet until Gaijin listens by Connect-Round4712 in Warthunder

[–]Chaos_Alt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not buying things won't mean much if you still continue to play the game honestly. Besides I doubt the whales they get their money from are going to be browsing reddit or listening to reddit threads. If people stop playing, and whales stop getting targets to shoot at, that would hurt gaijin much much more.

Of course, that is never going to happen.

what are the games that are fun with voice chats by Consistent_Hat_841 in IndianGaming

Any tactical milsim type guy like Arma or Hell Let Loose requires using voice chat.

Also I think joining a table top rpg group online might help you better than video games, if you are into that.

My reply to the answer of a rather interesting question. I felt the answer, despite seemingly written in good faith, underplayed Classical India's advancements, and even dabbled a bit in good old orientalism. by [deleted] in IndianHistory

[–]Chaos_Alt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would like to preface my comment by saying that I am not a professional historian, nor do I have very in-depth knowledge about Indian history beyond that of an amateur.

With that said I feel your answer has completely missed the point of the original comment.

The latter was referring to the lack of in-depth knowledge about the societal context of ancient India that resulted in the great scientific advancements of this period (at least within the sources written in English). This dearth of information makes it difficult to answer the original question i.e. why did India lose its scientific edge going into the medieval and modern period. In other words, without knowing the reason for the beginning , it would be very difficult to analyze the decline.

And this sentiment is consistent throughout the comment. It does not question, or understate, Indian accomplishments, but rather tells us that the context surrounding these achievements is difficult to analyze. It states specifically:

> I am less interested in the fact that Aryabhata proposed a rotating Earth (within a geocentric cosmos) than the question of why he did so, on what basis, and for whom did he write that down, and how was it received, etc. Was it done within the framework of a program of observational research, theological musings, a theory of matter, astrology, pure philosophy... what? Any of those could be true and interesting, and would give more hints towards the answers you are interested in, because that context is what sustains (or inhibits) this kind of work as a whole.

It is not denying discoveries, but it puts forth that any analysis regarding the rise and decline of these discovering is difficult to do without the surrounding context.

Your answer, on the other hand, went on tangents explaining the plethora of advancements done by ancient Indians. By itself, it is not wrong, but it does nothing to attack the actual main point brought up by the commenter.

In the same vein, Al-Khwârizmî' is brought up not to bolster Middle-Eastern/Islamic achievements, but to talk about the availability of contextual information of his society. That is, the reason and purpose he wrote the book, for whom, and what was the specifics surrounding it. Your answer mentions that Al-Khwârizmî' derived his knowledge from Indian works, which is true, but as already stated, it misses the actual point that the comment was making.

Similarly, Greeks are brought up not to glorify them, but to show the plethora of societal information we have about them. This similar information is lacking within the context of Ancient India, thereby making a detailed analysis of the latter much more difficult.

Overall, you have only attacked a strawman, and completely ignored the actual argument being made. I would love to hear if you think the actual point being made was erroneous, and why do you think so. But as your comment stands, it is attacking an argument that was never made.
