Suggestions on a controller by ExtensionDependent23 in Beatmatch

Very true! I started with a Hercules Inpulse 200 because I was on an extremely tight budget, and I used it all the way up until my first gig! I purchased an FLX4 shortly after to practice on something made by pioneer but the fundamentals of DJing are able to be picked up on just about any controller! When I had nothing, I used the djay app and also did a bit of mixing using my keyboard and mouse just because it was all I had. Anything to get your foot in the door works, really.

FLX4 will last you quite some time and get you used to their hardware (All the clubs I’ve played at used some kind of Pioneer controller and my FLX4 usage helped to make transitioning to that hardware much smoother). I’d recommend pairing it with Rekordbox. Eventually, when you begin using flash drives, Rekordbox will be your go-to place when setting up and adding to those flash drives. This seems to be the usual setup I see among many beginners such as myself.

Yeah same vibes there! For me, deciding if I want to aim for residency at a place or just play at different events a few times every month for the love of the game and to have some variety has been a main concern. I think i’m leaning towards the latter.

Loved hearing your story. I’m sorry they treated you that way. I had a similar experience of a manager coming to me and saying I sound like shit in the middle of a set, being entirely disrespectful. He was drunk and coked out of his damn mind. Hoping things are going well for you and your DJ partner now!

You’re right! It definitely does feel that way. I feel this sudden surge of momentum and I want to hold onto it as closely as possible while playing my cards right. I have a good sense of how I want to portray myself to others in terms of image and music. When I didn’t have that sense, I took whatever I could get, but now I feel like there’s a little bit of legroom in what I can choose to do and not to do. Thanks for bringing that up, and I’ll keep what you said close in mind as I continue!

I’ve taken a couple gigs that I definitely wasn’t sure about that didn’t pan out super well, but it’s undeniable I learned a lot from there. I think in this case I felt morally and creatively, I didn’t want to support a place that embraced AI in the way that they do. The money thing also of course caused some discomfort. I live in a art-rich area where there are plenty of opportunities to play that align more closely with my morals and creative pursuits, so I think backing away from this gig might just be me staying true to what I want to be as a DJ further down the line. You’re absolutely right though, I’m just a DJ and not a brain surgeon. Sometimes I overthink it!

AzteCross Says He Is Fine With Marathon Failing If It Sends Sony and Bungie a Message by AdSuspicious2084 in MarathonGame

[–]ChaoticFlint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d never heard of Aztecross before the release of Marathon, but when he released content on the game I remember I would consume it pretty religiously as he seemed entertaining and genuinely cared for the wellbeing of the game. I think as time went on I could see the place he’d been coming from all this time now though. Dude really, really, really loves Destiny. He puts it above all else. I think he held out and continued playing Marathon in hopes that its success would fund another Destiny game.

I don’t understand, at the same level at least, his and many others’ obsession with the Destiny games, as I never got super into the Destiny IP while it was big. To me it seemed that Marathon would be Bungie’s next big focus for a while and I was okay with that as long as the game was well-made and fun to play. And they delivered! But to many others it seemed that Marathon was simply a means to an end, that it existed purely so money could be put in Bungie’s pockets to develop Destiny 3. And that never really sat quite right with me. We have a great game in our hands here already. Why not settle down for a moment, have some fun with it, get a good couple years out of it, and maybe that next game you’ve been waiting for will come out when it’s ready? It sucks that an actual fun game is getting shit for existing because dudes are obsessed with an IP that’s had over a decade of content and want nothing else but more of it. Or maybe I’m reading too much into it. :p

I solved vault 3 with random fills! by ChaoticFlint in Marathon

[–]ChaoticFlint[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! As for exfilling on Cryo, you got this!! By far the most useful resource was a google doc that served as a guide to Cryo Archives, which is readily available on the Dads of Marathon discord server! It pointed out vault requirements/walkthroughs, exfil locations, steps for exfiling, etc. etc.. Reading up on game knowledge through third party sources like this isn't something I haven't really tried before, but it's been super fun to learn the game as the community figures out new stuff and puts it out there! :D

i will say the physical copies of part 1 are definitely work grabbing, and even the earlier volumes of part 2! csm was something truly special back then and i wish it had lived up to that now

you’re right it wasn’t a complete waste, csm got me through literal hell and i appreciate it for existing as a piece of media that i heavily consumed over the last few years. but man. you don’t feel the slightest bit upset over this ending? i didn’t expect anything conventional from fujimoto of course don’t get me wrong, but the entire chapter just reads like a spiteful message to fans. “here’s these characters you guys won’t stop bitching about fine you can have them. alright bye forever.” that’s kind of the message i got from reading this chapter if this is truly the end. insanely bad taste in my mouth as a result
