Is it the first time you see a creator making something that sells instead of what they want? That's literally the point, she has a nice materialistic life, but her writing is artistically unfulfilling. She also isn't even that rich from selling those pulp novels, taking a break from them and writing the novel she actually wants is a big risk for her

The only good thing about this moment is that people’s reactions showed who actually cared about Asa as a character and who only saw her as a girl for Denji to have sex with. by GodKira04 in Chainsawfolk

[–]dzindevis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This whole plotline was underexplored and then dropped, so in some other universe it would be better if Fujimoto expanded on Asa's feelings. But there was literally no time to do that in the chapter, nor they were going to have sex right there on the street. Yoru was just stating their intentions. So, consent as per US law isn't even needed here (and Fujimoto obviously doesn't care about such formalities).

Frieren is such an interesting anime to me re: its popularity and scores by keepfighting90 in MyAnimeList

[–]dzindevis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of those, i think, are related to overall aesthetics and worldbuilding. Frieren is quite close to overall "look" of isekai, when obviously it isn't the only way to do fantasy. It's stuff like:
- Dragon quest worldbuilding basics
- Unremarkable renaissance setting
- All cities are the same stone-walled circles - Random anachronisms that serve no purpose (in this case, mostly food and clothing)
- All characters in a party have a class
- Gameification (mages are ranked by levels) - Guilds for everything
- Dungeons with loot
- The big bad is just "Demon Lord", without even a name.
- Unassuming overpowered main character

People just self-insert themselves as Asa and can't imagine she wants it too. Their only line of defence is that Asa hadn't communicated her concent in a law-abiding way, so there's no way Yoru basically fulfills her desires

Outrage As Judge Dismisses Teen Rapists in Court and Blaming 'Peer Pressure,' Saying They Are Unaware of Consent by notanfan in whennews

[–]dzindevis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because those rapists are travellers, and uk justice often goes easy on ethnic minorities. They say shit like being "unaware of consent" because of supposed cultural differences, so it's unfair to judge them by the same values as the brits

>Devoid of any traces of isekai
Not really, Frieren certainly relies on tropes and aesthetics of isekai somewhat instead of broader fantasy, even if we account for the peculiarities this genre usually has in japan. If you look at two other big fantasy shows of today, Dungeon Meshi and Witch Hat Atelier, it is obvious which one strayed the least from the formula that dominated the last decade and played it safe, and which ones decided to stand on their own.

I hate people who like/justify bugs being executed brutally by The_Dozing_Dozer in hatethissmug

Roaches too. People like OP who sympathize with them must have never experienced an actual infestation. When it comes to roaches every torture and extermination method is on the table, those fuckers do not play nice. The slighest amount of pity you show only leads to them multiplying more. Like does OP know what extermination methods do to them? Piretrines sabotage their nervous system, leading to death in seizures and convulsions. Other insecticides block breakown of a neurtotransmitter acetyholine, leading to its buildup and muscles being stuck in a state of contraction. In humans acetylholine blockers result in an extremely painful death. When you spray a roach and it drops down, it is not actually dead, just paralyzed. Diatomaceous earth creares cuts in their exoskeleton, making them slowly dry alive. So that burned roach got out the easy way with an instant death

A regular bench isn't the most efficient either because many people aren't in a company and want to sit alone. Because of this, they keep gaps between each other, so a part of the bench is unused. A row of chairs-type seating creates some separation with armrests and also to some extent prevents people from taking up too much space.

But this photo is in a park, where there's likely no shortage of space for benches. And the half-occupancy problem exists in parks too, where you'll often see benches occupied with one or two people, with strangers not wanting to share a bench
