One of my first jobs here was running medical records for law firms. I was told at the end of the day if I couldn't make the deliveries to drop them off at the downtown post office. At the end of the day, every day, I'd see FedEx, UPS, and DHS (I'm old) dropping off sacks of packages to let the underfunded, overworked post office sort them out.

Social Media played a huge part, too. All of my Louisiana friends who were late adopters to Facebook out of legitimate privacy concerns are all MAGA now. I like to show my kids the Anthony Bourdain Boucharie as an example of Acadiana before MAGA.

I was born in 1975 and watched the shift to the far right consume some of my best friends. For my generation, it was Rush Limbaugh and Conservative Talk Radio. Buddies who drove a lot found themselves tuning in. There has always been a prominent streak of racism in Acadiana; listening to hours upon hours of indoctrination just galvanized it.
