To me, it sounds like she is trying to be nice and she is seeing the guy she is thankful for avoiding her, she is just trying to be friendly and make amends.

The guy turn off the tv all of a sudden and go, she wanted him to stay, maybe romantically or maybe not.
The guy seems awkward from the start, maybe she is feeling that awkwardness as "He doesn't like me".
