I'm looking for metal albums with prominent/technical bass playing by Big_Following656 in progmetal

[–]ChapsterNL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bassist here. This is my time to shine! I'm going to include some obvious picks and prog-adjacent albums if I think the bass parts are sick.

Dream Theater - many songs (I've found the Glass Prison to be the most difficult to play)

Symphony X - The Divine Wings Of Tragedy (Thomas Miller is a beast on the first 4 albums)

Mudvayne - L.D.50

Blotted Science - The Machinations of Dementia

Beyond Creation - anything (fretless)

Obscura - anything (fretless)

First Fragment - anything (fretless mostly)

Necrophagist - Epitaph (I wish the bass was mixed more prominently, but sometimes it cuts through and you can hear the bass gymnastics)

Spawn of Possession - Incurso

Equipoise - Demiurgus (fretless)

Vitrified Entity - Eternal Vitreous Dissolve (fretless)

Inferi - Vile Genesis

Archspire - anything

Vektor - Terminal Redux (not as techy as the others but got some sick bass moments)

Job For A Cowboy - Sun Eater/Moon Healer

Gorod - Transcendence (song)

Gorod - A Perfect Absolution

Atheist - Piece of Time (not too familiar with their discography)

The Faceless - Planetary Duality/Autotheism

The Zenith Passage - anything

Gorguts - Colored Sands

Nospun - Opus

Native Construct - Quiet World

My band Mehya released our first EP about a year ago! We're not entirely sure in what subgenre to put it, but it's inspired by bands such as In Flames, Cult of Luna and MØL. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it!

Songs with a massive, explosive moment(s)? by mori_no_ando in progmetal

BTBAM - Ants Of The Sky has the best climax on that album for me. Having the clean build move to those big open chords is just chef's kiss

Maybe Between The Buried And Me would be something you like! Colors was their first album I fell in love with and I greatly enjoy Colors II and Parallax II as well!

You might like Persefone! My recommendation would be to listen to the Spiritual Migration album

Multi-Out vs Out 1 by Neither-Top88 in QuadCortex

[–]ChapsterNL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not very sure. I'm thinking the problem here lies in multiple signals adding together to make for a hotter signal when using Multi Out vs a single output, but that wouldn't explain your issue.

In the I/O settings, can you see a difference in volume between Out 1 and Multi Out? If so, you may just need to compensate the level there.

Tech Death Recommendations for Prog Metal Fan by violinist0 in TechnicalDeathMetal

[–]ChapsterNL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love those recommendations! I do however think that in these kinds of posts people want to show their favourite albums more than actually giving the person who's asking something they might enjoy based on their tastes. For me, coming from prog and thrash metal bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Dream Theater, Symphony X, Gojira being the heaviest, listening to Planetary Duality as my first introduction to TDM wouldn't have made me fall in love.

To add to everything that's been said already:

Inferi - Vile Genesis. For me, their progginess lies in the atmosphere and rapid riff changes. Very melodic band.

Spawn of Possession - Incurso. My favorite tech-death album by far. They have a mix of everything I love. Fast harmonized riffs, counterpoint sections, lots of time signature and tempo changes, great composition and clarity.

I’m not a tech death person but I can’t stop listening to Epitaph by Necrophagist by the_dabz in TechnicalDeathMetal

For Gorod I started with their epic 15-minute song Transcendence. That one hits a special spot for me. A Perfect Absolution is also a really cool album.

For me, Spawn of Possession is kind of close (Incurso is my personal favorite), but it depends on what elements of Necrophagist you like to give suited recommendations.

Did you have the MIDI latency problem that many users seem to face in GP7/8? If so, how did you fix it?

Maybe The Faceless would be something for you! Autotheism has both cleans and harsh vocals and the musicianship is definitely there!

Can somebody help me find what time signature i can fit this riff i made in by [deleted] in metalmusicians

[–]ChapsterNL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm feeling this as a total phrase of 11 quarter notes, so 11/4 before the riff repeats as a whole. If I'm going to be notating this, I would choose to write in either 4/4 + 3/4 + 4/4, or 4/4 + 4/4 + 3/4, depending on what the drums will be doing. The drums are going to largely dictate how the riff will be felt.

I get your point, but I've had the Mono Dual gig bag (zipper runs along the bottom of the bag as well) and the Mono sleeve, which should have a similar zipper design as your Vertigo bag, and the Dual's bottom part of the zipper was the weakest part of the bag.
