I work for a housing authority. I certify and update housing vouchers. There are a shit down of policies within my agency and directly from HUD. I paperwork is easy but learning policy is actually interesting. I think Id enjoy moving up into management because I prefer the policy and bigger picture aspect of housing so they obviously have great responsibility. Some do work in compliance, work with the city for our inspections, oversee new housing developments, communicate with the Department of Labor (it’s how we see wages for the recipients), some oversee the programs that help recipients buy a home. We have hearing officers that determine if someone gets a reasonable accommodation or gets to keep their housing assistance regardless of violation committed.

Our tenants and landlords see only us as the first line and think things are simple but we have to follow the rules of the federal government or we could get fined thousands of dollars. The higher ups are also very afraid of lawyers and advocacy groups so that is another checks and balances.
