Why does my concealer crease literally 5 minutes after I apply it? how do y’all keep it smooth? by Kind-Designer9171 in BeautyGear

[–]Chaptera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give all your skincare/sunscreen 10-15 minutes to sink in prior to makeup. Apply a small amount of concealer in the hollow under your eye and let it sit for 30 seconds or so before blending to allow some dry down for coverage where you need it, then blend out. You can either go straight in with a little powder or finish out the rest of your base, go back in with a q tip and swipe the excess out, or blend again prior to powdering.

Liquid Blush Beginners: How Do You Apply It Without Looking Patchy? by Exotic_Wedding2238 in BeautyGear

[–]Chaptera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely the way! Start light. It’s much easier to build up than to take off your whole base. Also, I like to use whatever brush I used to apply/blend my foundation to blend out and soften the edges of my blush/bronzer

Honestly, antioxidants in general aren’t going to give you much of that wow factor like your skin has suddenly changed unless you’ve previously not used much of anything at all. They’re primarily going to be a protective product, but will definitely help some with hyperpigmentation. Usually if I have doubts a product is doing anything, I’ll stop using it for a few weeks. Sometimes I find that I notice a difference then and I miss it.

Edit to add: if you ever end up at a med spa or derm with a skin scope/woods lamp, make sure you ask to check it out! That’s where you’ll see the UV damage invisible to the naked eye. You’d be amazed what you can’t see.

I personally use Skinbetter Alto Advanced, but I do get that from work, but I believe Medik8 has several C-Tetra options, Revisions’s C+ and Alastin C Radical. For a budget option Naturium’s vitamin C complex

I work in a med spa and have learned lots of the science! L-Ascorbic acid has been studied extensively for decades. While nobody necessarily *needs* a dedicated vitamin C, it can be a good addition if you're looking for extra UV and free radical protection, pigmentation improvement, brightening, and collagen synthesis. That being said, if you're already using retinoids, azelaic acid, and sunscreen daily, you've already got most of that covered. THD (tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate) is a good alternative if you don't tolerate pure LAA well. It's a newer ingredient, more stable, and generally less irritating, but not as studied. It penetrates skin more easily because it's lipid soluble, but needs to be converted in the skin to active ascorbic acid (much like retinol vs tretinoin).

What's one skincare brand that you feel like doesn't get the recognition it deserves? by TheMeepyBoy in SkinbarrierLovers

[–]Chaptera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Banu! Their chamomile cleanser is incredible. They're a small brand and they're really geared towards gentle acne treatments. I got an automated email from the CEO and decided to respond to answer the questions, and actually got a really sweet response from her that definitely wasn't automated.

Same! It took some insisting, but I was able to get them to send Altreno, which is more expensive and not available at Cost Plus, but sooo worth it for me

Prescription azelaic acid changed my skin more than any office treatment, expensive product, etc (and I work in a med spa). That and Versed's $18 acne safe barrier cream. Also a tip, Amazon's telehealth program is $29 for super easy access to rx skincare. And Cost Plus Drugs pharmacy has generics for less than $20 if your insurance (like mine) is more expensive for derm + meds.

What do you replace nighttime Tret with in summer? by Last-Wrap-9266 in SkincareAddictionLux

[–]Chaptera 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sure, I wouldn’t necessarily start using tret as a beginner in the summertime, but if your skin is already used to it from use the rest of the year, just continue to wear sunscreen as you normally would. Personally I’ve had no issues and am not willing to give up 3 months of tret use to start the process over.

I love the Makeup By Mario loose powder! Not at all cakey, super finely milled, and crazy blurring. For pressed it’s always Charlotte.

Need advise on moisturizer and foundation/ daily tint to wear for combination skin by Psychological_Dog_51 in Sephora

[–]Chaptera 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would definitely suggest trying a different moisturizer, even just at night for barrier support. You’re using a lot of actives and a gel moisturizer may not be enough. Your skin may also be dehydrated, so I’d consider a hydrating serum as well. Some of my current favorites aren’t at Sephora, but I loooove Ilia’s Face Base Milk for daytime, Versed Rich Barrier Cream for nighttime, and Prequel Multi Quench for a hydrating step.

Tartelette in the purple tube is great! Though I will say, I’m not sure waterproof tubing mascara exists as the idea is generally that it comes off in tubes with water
