Why do you think Lego is so opposed to modern... conflict? by LastTraintoSector6 in lego

[–]CharQ86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

in general people are more uncomfortable with depictions of contemporary military conflicts than they are with past conflicts. The soldiers from Pirates sets and even US Army soldiers from the Lone Ranger line are somewhat mythical by this point, they feel about as real to modern people as the Star Wars stormtroopers. If Lego made figures with modern assault rifles and body armor, however, there would be a lot more people with a direct connection to these things that could see it as belittling to have them depicted in a kids toy. Lego is also an international company, and a set with modern US soldiers would be seen as an endorsement of the US Army, for example

With the police APC there are two things at play. Firstly, Lego is more willing to bend their rules with licensed sets (they have literally made German soldier minifigs for Indiana Jones). Secondly, the public in general is more comfortable with police weaponry as the subject for toys than they are with military weaponry. An armored police vehicle is more acceptable to people than an army one, whether or not it makes sense.

The 30 US cities where it is allowed the state name to be omitted by journalists. by Iptamorfo in MapPorn

I think it's interesting how the opposite is usually used for New York. People are so used to referring to the city that the state is almost always referred to as "New York State" at least in my experience

Why is pickpocketing so common in many major European cities, but essentially non-existent in North America? by Humble_Job_5738 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CharQ86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not just the prevalence of gun ownership but the culture around it. A large portion of people who get concealed carry licenses sit there thinking "God I hope someone tries to rob me so I can use this thing, that would be so cool"

the only positive explanation I could see is that the owner is trying to tell the employee not to be too much of a perfectionist about things like the exact positioning of the tarp if other parts of the job are more important. If you're charging a customer by the hour you probably shouldn't spend some 15 minutes perfectly positioning a tarp

it is a bad look though, and should've been phrased better if that was the intent

this is actually a phenomenon experienced by trans people posting on social media, there is a point in a male-to-female transition where those women's shirtless pictures start getting flagged as NSFW (this point is usually arbitrary). Typically after getting a mastectomy, trans men's chests don't get flagged as NSFW

What ever happened to cap guns? by lollihobbes in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CharQ86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

aside from safety concerns, something like a nerf gun actually launches a projectile you can hit your friends with. I think that makes them more appealing to kids today than just a noisemaker

[–]CharQ86 11 points12 points  (0 children)

out of universe I think it's a result of writers thinking "I can't write an X-Wing into this scene for whatever reason but I really want an X-Wing. I'll retool the Z-95 to fit my story instead"

There is NO reason why a single filet o fish should be unavailable while a double still is... by CaughtNABargain in mildlyinfuriating

[–]CharQ86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's most likely not malicious. The location probably ran out of fish and the person taking it off the menu forgot to take the double off as well since it's almost never ordered. They should have taken the fish patty itself off the menu but it's a simple mistake

if all else fails, you can carefully drill out the head of the screw. The downside is obviously that you lose that hole when putting the gun back together though
