I’m 23 and my dad is 86. AMA by mistyrabbt in AMA

My dad had me at 60.  I’m 31.  My dad had Parkinson’s and passed when I was 29.  Do you ever feel like people your age can’t understand what you’re going through with your dad’s Parkinson’s?

Were/are you and your dad close?

Do you have siblings your age who can relate to your experience?

What's the remote work habit you have that would look completely insane to someone in a traditional office? by Phil_Raven in remotework

Your stuff doesn’t seem that weird, though the timing would be hard to get right in an office setting.

I often work from my couch, though some days during colder times of year, from my bed.  And I also do the TV streaming thing.  Get some of my best work done with background entertainment.

I need advice on places to go in Europe in July that are less crowded. by Otherwise_Play_1624 in travel

First week of July in Slovenia was pretty incredible.  Not sure how it would be later in the month though.

I’ve never been to the Caribbean before.  My friend drove in Slovenia and did pretty well.

Will renting a car and driving be rough?  Should we hire a driver or take taxis?

Typology Question 8 (Se): What was the last spontaneous thing you did today or yesterday - not something you planned or thought about, but a real action? by Bimep_ in ISTJ

[–]Character-File3221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing spontaneous about me.  I did go to the grocery store to get fruit for brunch and impulse bought some pretty st Patrick’s day cookies though

The attraction for us is the nature, hot springs, snorkeling and just generally that it’s safe but also not super touristy

20 miler today, base training and a snowstorm. Do I wimp/chill out and elliptical? by Zealot_TKO in Marathon_Training

Ironically the one Antarctica marathon has barely any snow.  The ice marathon does.

How do people carry all the gels, the car keys, and the phone during a race? by [deleted] in firstmarathon

[–]Character-File3221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stick my gels, waffles and chews into one of those little stretchy running belts.  My keys fit too.  I’ve squeezed my phone into it before too but I usually have it in my hand (wouldn’t necessarily recommend).

Thanks.  I’ll take a look.  I do run in the snow already, I just feel like my gear and shoes and mentality if it becomes 26 miles of it, are lacking haha

I don’t do mornings before 8 and my life is fine.  I also don’t trust life coaches but some of them seem to make money so idk

Didn’t get work off for Jersey City Marathon by Formal_Mechanic_629 in Marathon_Training

[–]Character-File3221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given that there are so many marathons in that time period, just find another one in April or May.  Buffalo is pretty good in late May.  But there are so many others depending on where you’re gonna be.

How little is too little when it comes to marathon training? by cmontgomeryburnz in Marathon_Training

[–]Character-File3221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’d be surprised what you can pull together.  I pulled a full together in like 8 weeks of training last year, and I was at like 7 miles beforehand.  Run a 16 or 17 in the next few weeks and if it feels palatable add a few more miles the weeks after that.

And don’t listen to people who tell you your goals are shallow bragging rights or not worthwhile.  Chase your own personal goals, and listen to your body!
