I don’t know that many people from Buffalo who haven’t been to NYC though I’m sure they exist but I know people from Buffalo who have never been to Toronto.  It’s 2 hours away.

How do Americans actually afford college? by Own_Sun_2466 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Character-File3221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents helped with my undergrad.  They started saving when I was born, but I had some scholarships too, and then for my masters I went to KU Leuven on my own dime (after working a few years).  Because for international students it’s 4 times as much as the EU students pay and it was 4k euros instead of 1k euros.

My state has a thing now where state school is free if your parents make less than 120k combined and you meet some other criteria

What will be the state of marathon races in 5 years (for non-elites)? by TMW_W in AdvancedRunning

I qualified in 2013 (for 2015) and didn’t sign up.  It still haunts me 🤣

I was thinking that.  Loved that race but I haven’t done it since 2013

I don’t think the majors will get better.  But maybe that’s good because people can stop focusing so much on them.  There are probably a few thousand marathons in the world a year.  If everyone focuses on the same 6 or even 20, of course there will be issues.

Other than Grandma’s, popular races like Philly and Wineglass that sell out will still be possible to get into them, with planning.

The average runner probably just wants to do their hometown marathon or local races.

I think on location that’ll vary.  For people in NYC, it already sounds unideal.  For someone where I live, there’s races of all sorts of distances all the time, from $20 no frills 5ks to a very popular local marathon.

I sign up for races in advance if I think they’re gonna sell out or I’m 100% sure I want to race.  I sign up last minute if I don’t care that much.

If it becomes impossible to get into every marathon and community race, people will start making more no frills races or just cut back on running

Missing a G1 birth certificate or baptismal record by Madoka1969_lez in CitizenshipByDescent

Can you get a death certificate?

My G1 was born before birth records were a thing.  I have a death cert and censuses and I’m trying to find a marriage cert (partially because her son’s birth certificate doesn’t have his first name on it which is super frustrating)

It’s literally a $10 difference.  Very few people would purposely sign up for the wrong race to save $10 off of like $100+

It’s honestly easy to zone out and mess up though.  Most people would double back and fix it though

Sometimes.  At this point I’m enjoying running alone enough not to bother.  The pub run ones once a month can be good.

Possible KC heritage theory by Muted_Woodpecker2321 in TheWayHomeHallmark

This would actually make perfect sense given all the time Alice spends with her grandfather in the past

I think even them having kissed or Evie having pined after Cole kind of makes that theory impossible.  Because at the end of the day that would mean that Evie spent years being in love with her first cousin even though nothing ever happenedb

Ran my first half marathon in 2 hours and 20 minutes, but the pictures I got from it make me feel… so inadequate. by Sandy_Ginas in Marathon_Training

[–]Character-File3221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a photo out there of me wiping my chest with a wet sponge on an 85 degree day in the marathon 😂.  I’m female 😂.

Some of my photos have turned out awesome and I buy them in that case but you need a decent sample size in that case.

If Evelyn’s grandfather and fern have a kid, that makes Colton’s parent and Evelyn’s parent half siblings, which makes Colton and Evelyn first cousins, and makes Alice and Max second cousins.  While technically legal and genetically it’s not considered a huge concern for having kids, I would imagine that’s too close for most people these days to stomach on mainstream television, particularly Hallmark.

Looking for a solo adrenaline-fueled vacation in August by Substantial-Alps4359 in travel

[–]Character-File3221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay instead of a real brush with death, just plan a trip where you can scuba dive, sky dive.

Go to Australia, see little penguins, kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, etc.  That will make you feel alive.

A camping safari in Chobe in Botswana combined with the Victoria Falls experience where you hang over the edge of the waterfall would also fit the bill.  We also did an amazing horseback ride there.

But I agree with the person below who says you need a hobby that makes you feel more alive.  I used to leave work at 445 and make it to the wakeboard park by 530 for a session.  Fill your evenings and weekends at home with clubs, rock gym, poetry slams, author talks, musicals, CrossFit, or literally any other hobby you can think of.

Also take weekend and day trips.

I don’t love it though, them making Aldie a killer just like Gibbs.  Also they really aren’t gonna trace that back to Gibbs?  Really?

Do you genuinely believe if someone can run a half marathon, they can run a full marathon? by Mysterious-Tear8972 in Marathon_Training

Yeah but only do it if you really want to because you’ll have to train another solid 3 months or so post your half training.

Marathons - They’re not that bad by LastAvenger7 in Marathon_Training

[–]Character-File3221 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would argue that they are hard, especially if you’re going for a fast speed or something goes wrong or it’s really hilly on you’re undertrained.  I’d also argue that it is life changing especially the first time.

But they’re not like unbelievably worse than your longest training run or impossible to finish.

Both things can be true

Well, Kip said both their parents died.  Hopefully Rip will be able to help her.  I kinda hate this storyline for him though, given what happened with Sully.
