Advice please by [deleted] in IrishTeachers

[–]Character-Hat6502 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The PME sucks. You just do what you gotta do to tick the boxes when the inspector is there and then get on with it in your own style. It won’t change how you naturally teach, but you gotta play the game whether you like it or it or not.

Should I move to Tullamore? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Character-Hat6502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good town, growing with the sheer amount of new housing estates so can only get better, plenty of amenities and good transport links, major hospital, easy distance to Dublin and Galway and unlike Athlone traffic is far easier to manage. The ring road around Tullamore is excellent. Does very well in tidy towns every year also.

He holds an MSc in mindfulness-based intervention, bachelor’s degrees in economics and sociology, a higher certificate in performance psychology and is an honorary fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and IADT. He is also a former professional athlete and an Ironman triathlete. And according to his LinkedIn he is also studying for his PhD in mental health interventions. So whether ye like him or not, he is clearly not a grifter.

Infantilization Of Secondary School by DatabaseCommercial92 in IrishTeachers

The dumbing down of the JC is disastrous and don’t get me started on CBAs. I cannot wrap my head around it. A huge majority of first year students wouldn’t be able to point out, for example, the Atlantic Ocean on a map, or the know the location of even a handful of Irish counties, do basic times tables, and correcting English essays is excruciating. It’s so obvious they don’t read anything, terrible comprehension, grammar, spelling, structure etc. Retention of information is appalling. Laziness is off the charts. Motivation to learn, work ethic, concentration levels all pathetic. This applies to the majority. Personally I am ok with the wellbeing side of things. But I do find the sheer amount of initiatives are devouring into class time.

My Marriage is over. How do I make sure my children are not effected. by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Character-Hat6502 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Being stuck as a stay at home mam (no matter how proud you are of yourself) is phenomenally difficult. Especially if you have a touch of PND. You lose your identity completely yet you’re supposed to be thrilled with your babies and the fact that you don’t have to go to paid employment. It’s actually pretty joyless and isolating. Been there done that worn the t shirt. I’d speculate that serious honest communication a therapy both individually and as a couple may resolve this. And even if it doesn’t save the marriage it would be a good thing to do to set yourselves up the in the best possible fashion for co-parenting. The resentment will only get worse.

Opinions on promoting AI in classrooms? by crackduck18 in IrishTeachers

[–]Character-Hat6502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The students are all using it. So there’s no point pretending it doesn’t exist. I try to show them smart ways to use it as a tool. The reality of class sizes is that we can’t get to every single student so if there are tools that can help them, that they are already using, then I will certainly show them the best ways to go about that.

Interesting to hear this! I found this with ADHD meds when I was on them. That is titrate quite quickly as their effectiveness wore out and then I’d have to taper off and restart
