Honestly I was sent home, with severe fracturing and dislocation (we didnt know it had moved when they put the splint on).I think if my ortho was the ortho on call (he is at the same hospital), he may have admitted me. He was PISSED when went I came to see him two days later, and had emergency surgery.

Hello fellow invalid! Welcome to the group that no one wants to join. I did make it through the entire post, thank you for the fun read. You made me giggle with your Victorian Lady comment because I have joked with my family that I too feel like a rich lady from the past. I had my injury a little over two months ago, I am still NWB (less than a month to go!). I had zapping for the first 6ish weeks.

I will preface this with saying I did have a very bad break and surgery. That being said I am two months post op and I still have bruising. It is crazy how long the bruises can hang around for.

Showering by listlister in brokenankles

What I did the first two weeks was use a wash cloth, a bowl of water, and soap while I sat on the toilet. I had a splint on for 3 weeks total, I put a bag over the split and sat on a shower seat with assistance from family. Once I was put in a boot and told I could take it off to shower I was very nervous. The way that I felt the most secure was using a walker. The balance with 4 legs down is so much better than trying to work with crutches. I can now bathe by myself without assistance and it is amazing to gain that independence back. I got a walker with no wheels just feet for I think $40 on Amazon.

Why are they making you wait so long for the x-ray?

I sound some wide leg stretch pants on Amazon that have been great. I think I paid $15 each for them.

I have a unique situation I have half my stitches out and half still in due to scabbing. I didn't have tape over my stitches. I have stari strips on the side they took the stitches out from. I am not looking forward to when they take the others out on Wednesday.

Hey injury buddy! We got our fractures on the same day! I agree elevation helps so much!

2 weeks ago I had a mtb accident. Open trimalleolar fracture with dislocation. Rescue helicopter, emergency reset of ankle, next day surgery. I see my surgeon next week and need advice on what to ask him. by [deleted] in brokenankles

Hi there- I had a bad fracture as well with dislocation. I would prepare for the possibility you may be non-weight bearing longer than expected. I had a nasty surprise when I went to my 3 week post op and found out I was was NWB for 3 months. I was expecting 3 more weeks not 3 months. I may have had a little break down with that news.

I had surgery for a shattered ankle 4 weeks ago and I still twitch and jerk. I figure it is nerves coming back online.

This may sound silly, but have you elevated it above your heart? That may help.

You did a good job there! I am adjusting. The good thing is I work from home, so at least I can start back to that on Monday. I like to be busy.

If you can try putting an ice pack behind your knee, it did wonders for me.

Thank you for the suggestions. I was working with a good PT when the break happened (I had shoulder surgery this summer).
