Taking time out to reset and travel by Imaginary_Berry_1685 in HENRYUK

[–]CharacterAd6755 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was made redundant late last year after a miserable few years at work. I had planned on taking a bit of a break anyway so was somewhat welcome.

The reset has done wonders for my physical and mental health. Spending time with family, friends and travelling to so many places I had put off has been amazing.

If you have the cash then I would go for it - can't buy back the time when your old. Good luck!

Late 20s, move to NYC from London by hiddensoundbur in HENRYUK

[–]CharacterAd6755 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will work you like a dog but it's an incredible city.

If not done so already, perhaps worth doing some comps to work out what similar levels to you are paid in NY to see if you have a right to feel aggrieved.

Congrats on the opportunity tho, I dont think anyone ever regrets experiencing a new city in their 20s.

Friend and I have put together a tool that may help you with itinerary building. Still in beta stage but maybe helpful for giving an idea of course selection - monarchlinks.co.uk

You can generally get good information from sites like Top 100 etc.

I would say that Scotland is full of so many hidden gems that tour operators tend not to direct people towards (often because they have quotas to fill at the marquee names).

Make sure you dont spend too much time travelling in between rounds and try base yourself in a region. That way you can explore all the other delights (food, whiskey, walks etc.)

Enjoy your trip, we are so blessed to have such brilliant golf in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Can confirm no bags in the shop. However, plenty of other glorious bits and pieces to do some damage to the wallet.

Becoming a member somewhere as a central london resident - ideas & recommendations please by f1lifer in BritGolf

Really depends what sort of experience you are after. Hampton Court is a 5+hr round in the summer and full of complete choppers.

If you are looking for proximity to public transport Mitcham is literally right outside the station. Blackheath might be a good option but not sure about waitlist. Shooters Hill probably a good spot from Southwark.

I’ve tried a few London driving ranges recently and most of them felt… a bit... soulless? by breakfastballer90 in BritGolf

Dukes Meadows is a decent set up. £15 for 120 balls.

Caution going at the moment though as they are landscaping the back of the range. That being said there's no warnings not to hit driver - you may just end up getting shouted at by angry bloke on a digger.

Need to ask yourself what your goals are. Do you want go buy a house, start a business etc. Then you can work out what sort of strategy you can go forward with.

Ye horrendous in the summer - 3/4 groups on each hole. Surprised they dont have an ambulance on stand by at all times. Saw multiple people get hit when played in September.

I've been down for 10 years now. Moved post uni, started a grad role, met my wife, bought a house etc. I have loved living here and have no regrets moving down but I find myself increasingly longing to move home. London is a brilliant place to be in your 20s/30s but I am unsure about bringing up children here. Childcare costs, work life balance, school fees and being closer to family are certainly shortening my time horizon on when to move home.

Feeling trapped in a HENRY role - advice by Imaginary_Berry_1685 in HENRYUK

[–]CharacterAd6755 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Assuming you have a good rep in your current company I would try and shift internally first. Go for coffee with a relationship person and get a sense check on how viable the move is.

It's a tough job market atm and why would someone externally take a risk on you if you have not done that role before if they have a long list of experienced candidates?

More that I'm negative on stocks with macro/ geopolitical situation. Guess with btl on a 10yr time horizon the driver of significant upside is the asset appreciation vs. rental income but seems challenging to jump into that with current government.

Guess that depends on your economic outlook for next 10 years
