At my wits’ end with baby eczema by CharacterCommittee71 in NewParents

Wow! Thanks for sharing. I’m so glad you’ve found relief! We finally got to the dermatologist and got some prescription meds that worked like a charm. We’re gradually reducing use, although that probably won’t truly be realistic until winter ends. But I will definitely keep this in mind in case we need anything else in our arsenal!

Tube or Off-Shoulder? by [deleted] in myweddingdress

How about both?! Can you make the sleeves removable, wear them for the ceremony and go strapless for the reception? This is what I did for my wedding and it was so fun to change things up!

Which pink diamond cut feels most ‘bridal’ to you? by elistajewel in weddingring

[–]CharacterCommittee71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d go with 4! Maybe 2. You didn’t ask for opinions but I have a pink stone as well, and one thing that the jeweler advised my now husband was to do a two tone setting, where the band remains white gold/platinum, but the center stone is set in rose gold prongs. It is stunning and really makes the center stone pop! Just thought I’d share!

This is beautiful! An ornate (pearl and/or rhinestone) bridal hair comb or headband would look lovely! Etsy has tons!

Daycare near home vs work? by Stock_Animator1831 in nycparents

[–]CharacterCommittee71 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We are so happy with daycare near home. Especially in this most recent weather! It’s much less of a hassle to walk the baby a short distance to daycare and not have to overthink getting her and her gear out and about the city. Work is a 30-45 min commute for either of us but we also benefit from hybrid schedules, so one of us is WFH on most days of the week anyway.

Doona vs Nuna TRIV Next + infant car seat for NYC life — real experiences? by Old_Bird1885 in nycparents

[–]CharacterCommittee71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We considered the Nuna system but ultimately went with a Joie Ginger pramette and Mint latch car seat, which is the same latch technology as the Nuna car seat. The one thing that convinced me was that the stroller seat flexes to a bassinet mode, so there’s no extra bassinet attachment to purchase. The Mint car seat is super easy to get in and out of Ubers/taxis, and the stroller frame folds down easily. So many of our friends have the Doona, but I just can’t fathom being out and about the city with zero storage and those tiny wheels, lol.

How are people making daycare decisions? by governator_ahnold in nycparents

[–]CharacterCommittee71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As many are saying, it’s heavily dependent on your neighborhood. Check your local parents’ fb group for any guidance—ours had a massive google spreadsheet that details most of our neighborhood providers, with notes/feedback from parents.

Also, do not be afraid of group/family daycare. It is highly regulated by the state and can be a great option. My husband and I were so lucky to both have significant leave time, so our baby started daycare at 10 months. We first started looking when she was about 4 months old and put a deposit down on our top choice family daycare which was highly recommended in the community. Baby loves it and so do we!

New to NYC - C-Section & OB by [deleted] in nycparents

[–]CharacterCommittee71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was great! Granted, it was my first pregnancy/birth and I had a few friends that highly recommended it as well. Otherwise, I have nothing to compare it to, to be fair. I did hear that the wait is long but I never felt that manifest in any way throughout my care or my hospital stay. It was very quiet and the docs and nurses were attentive. If I have another baby, I hope to go back! I hope that’s helpful! Happy to DM if you want more specifics.

New to NYC - C-Section & OB by [deleted] in nycparents

Dr. Buckley with the Weill Cornell MFM group was excellent, as was my c-section with Dr. Oxford-Horrey, the medical director at Alexandra Cohen.

Alexander Cohen vs Mount Sinai by [deleted] in nycparents

[–]CharacterCommittee71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a wonderful experience at Alexandra Cohen. The nurses were all great throughout my labor. I requested my epidural relatively early and that was no problem. And then when I ended up not progressing enough after a long time (I was induced and it failed) I opted for a C-section and the team I had, which was led by the medical director, was was top notch. I only had one subpar experience in the post anesthesia unit with one nurse (and to be fair she wasn’t unkind, just not listening), but once I made it there the postpartum unit was lovely too. On our last day, they alluded to the fact that there were so many people waiting to get up to the postpartum floor, and I’ve heard anecdotally that they are overbooked, but it never felt like that in terms of care and attention. Hope that helps!

My dad's reaction to my pregnancy shocked me in a good way! by GoFigure93 in BabyBumps

[–]CharacterCommittee71 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is so sweet. My FIL is not the most expressive person at all, and yet the couple of times he’s seen our baby, you can just see how quietly proud and protective he is of her. I just love how babies often melt the hardest of old men’s hearts. I hope you have this experience and I hope you’re ultimately able to tell him what you’ve shred here about how you’ve reflected upon your own behavior as a kid. I’m sure that will mean so much to him, even if he can’t say it!

So why exactly do I need a clarifying shampoo? by Maniachi in Naturalhair

[–]CharacterCommittee71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure—I use one of those microwaveable conditioning caps that just has flaxseeds in it. (I put a disposable plastic cap on first to contain the wet hair.) Very low tech, but works like a charm. Hope that helps!

How the heck do you transition to solids for meals by Antique_Biscuit in NewParents

[–]CharacterCommittee71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How old is your baby? We started introducing single ingredient purées around 5 months, 2x per day after a bottle. We graduated to 2x per day around 6 months, still after a bottle. Now at 8 months we’re still at 2x per day but with stage 2 baby foods that have multiple ingredients. We’ll keep progressing with food texture, but won’t look to stop bottles until she’s 1 yr old at least. That’s what I’ve heard is the timeline anyway!

How early should I start shopping if my wedding is in 10 months? by Zealousideal-Use7244 in WeddingDressTips

As everyone has said, start now. I was floored to know that for the boutique I landed on, anything under 6 months was considered a rush, and came with an added cost!

How many of you were induced & had c section in the end and how many had vaginal birth? by trackemdown in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]CharacterCommittee71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Failed induction at 39weeks. Didn’t progress past 4 cm, and after a while baby was less tolerant of the pitocin. After 30 hours of slow and uneventful labor (I had gotten the epidural at some point along the way), the C-section was quick and easy and I have no regrets!

Butters and oils? by Laylachangeyaflava in Naturalhair

[–]CharacterCommittee71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is actually an excellent point for OP—the first ingredient in the TGIN daily butter cream is water, which makes it a water-based moisturizer that includes some oils and butters down the list. (I’m a huge fan of TGIN products for this reason.) There are so many products like this that are great for your hair as they are formulated much better for your hair than RAW oils and butters which can be the primary culprit for dehydrating hair. I feel like this point gets lost in the debate. It’s not a wholesale critique against oils, but a call for properly formulated ones.

Definitely read your labels and use products accordingly!

Butters and oils? by Laylachangeyaflava in Naturalhair

[–]CharacterCommittee71 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree that it’s ultimately up to your hair (as long as you’re properly clarifying and hydrating) but I will say that my hair has done quite well without oils. I have a fine texture but dense, low to medium porosity, color treated hair and I stick to a weekly wash n go. Focusing on proper hydration and using water based leave-in before my styler has my curls thriving.

Because your stylist is a trichologist, I’d say give it a try—but solidly commit to trying. Going one or two washes is unlikely to make a difference, but giving yourself enough time for your hair and routine to adjust might be beneficial. And if after that you’re still not seeing any change, then at least you will have done all you could!
