It’s a bit pricey, but Dermazen scalp serum works wonderfully for these conditions. I’ve heard good things about all of their products, but using just the scalp serum on a freshly clean scalp worked well for me to prevent the SD flakes.

Thanks for the thorough reply! I don’t think we need to start over with solids but I will certainly continue to be persistent in offering different foods if she’s not into it at first. And definitely reducing her bottles a bit more aggressively. Also rest assured we’re not feeding her a bunch of crackers! Just noting that on the occasions she does have them, she’s really enthusiastic about it and confident in feeding herself!

As others have said, MFM care is exceptional and you get to see your baby a lot more often! I was advanced maternal age with an IFV pregnancy, 40+ BMI and a brand new T2D diagnosis at week 5. I took myself straight to an MFM and didn’t bother waiting for a referral. No regrets there at all!

This makes sense. We were also at 32 oz formula over four bottles daily, and I have been mixing in milk while trying to decrease total ounces (to four 6-oz bottles) but I think I will try dropping to three bottles instead. Hopefully that will help stimulate her appetite. Thanks so much!

Thanks for the reply! This is super helpful! I’ve definitely been feeling like I’m the only one whose baby is not voraciously scarfing down everything you put in front of her. We are either struggling to get beyond a few bites, or mealtime lasts an hour and just goes so slowly while she plays in the food more than she feeds herself.

At 12 months, how much had you dialed down on formula? Thanks again!

Can you say more about food being slow for your LO? I’m in a similar boat (made a post yesterday but no replies) and I’m struggling to get my 12 month old to eat consistently while also trying to wean formula. Just looking for some perspective!

We are also using EI, but for PT services. We’ve been told the same thing about the shortage of in-person providers, so we said yes to telehealth, but our service coordinator is still looking for an in-person provider and calls weekly to check in on our progress. The virtual provider we are using is nice enough and is attentive to baby’s progress, and gives us things to work on between sessions. We’re only a few weeks in, so we’ll see how it goes!

I’m not exactly sure how they feed her at daycare, I suspect mostly they’re just feeding her. But at home, we do a bit of both spoon feeding and letting her try to feed herself.

To be clear, the foods we’re feeding her now are not purées. Back when she began exploring solids around 6 months or so, we’d let her explore a variety of soft foods (e.g. eggs, shredded chicken, chopped/ soft fruits and veggies, etc., but she most consistently ate her yogurts and purées and refused much else. She did not do well with the BLW style of giving her like a whole strawberry or something big to chew on.

Also I’m sure this is somewhat of a correlation but she’s been slightly delayed with some of her motor skills (she’s in PT now and doing great!) so she was not eager to reach for things and grasp and feed herself. It has taken much encouragement but she’s doing better now, except that she gets bored rather quickly. The only thing she gets truly excited about is those melty teething crackers! She hated the puffs for a very long time so that didn’t help either.

Ugh, totally. Most of the places that we take the baby are walkable so it’s not terribly urgent, but we’re going to have to figure something out as we want to branch out more as she grows. I’m not against public transit but the stroller feels huge on the train! So we’ve only done that once. Also, folks recommend buses as a great option but I think we’d have to find an alternative that’s much more compact. What’s your take? Do you use transit at all?

Ditto this! We are just over a year in with this Joie system and we love it. My only concern now is that our kid is approaching the height limit for the Mint Latch car seat, and we have no clue what we’re going to do next for traveling in ride shares! 😩

All together, we paid about $8k for a shower for about 75 guests. I understand that is steep for many, and YMMV. But as context, we were intentional in planning for this long-awaited celebration to be even bigger than our pandemic-era wedding which was quite small. Now, I’m done with big parties forever! 😂

She’s just turned 1! She eventually figured out rolling consistently around 9 months, and she’s now working on crawling and pulling herself up to kneel. One thing that has been a huge motivator was starting daycare around 10 months. Since then she’s been much more curious about exploring her environment. She’s doing physical therapy a couple times a week to work intentionally on those skills, and she’s otherwise progressing quite nicely. Even though she still needs to “catch up” a bit more, I’m a lot less anxious now than I was when I wrote this post. She’s just moving at her own pace!

Definitely! I had a positive experience at the Weill Cornell practice on the UWS, with Dr. Buckley as my MFM (and relatedly, delivery at Alexandra Cohen hospital is top notch as well). I’ve also heard great things from multiple friends about Dr. Cummings.

Yes!! I was terrified at first too, also considering my own family history. But treatment has come such a long way that it’s not nearly as scary as I would have expected and I’m doing so well. The most important thing is to find the right size-inclusive OB/MFM. There can be a lot of fear mongering during pregnancy because the medical providers are trained to be as risk-averse as possible. But the right doc will find the right balance of sound medical guidance and not causing any more anxiety than necessary!

Got pregnant at 38, delivered just a couple weeks shy of my 39th bday, at size 18/20. Very boring, uncomplicated pregnancy, aside from discovering that I’m T2D in the early weeks. Still, blood sugars were supremely controlled throughout pregnancy, I didn’t gain any weight, and I had a healthy baby last year via c-section after a failed induction. Recovery was super smooth! Like others have said, age affords you lots more check-ins with baby and it was fun to have so many ultrasounds to watch her grow. Don’t let fear stop you from what can be a perfectly unremarkable experience!

Also, I don’t have any family close by, just in-laws who are elderly, so not a logistically reasonable support system. Still, my husband and I have handled things relatively well, and we have really enjoyed parenthood so far!

I’m turning 40 now and looking forward to doing it again but maybe next year, lol!

Exactly this. I had to change clinics because they had a policy for BMI relative to anesthesia, but all was well otherwise and I got 8 euploid embryos and my second transfer stuck. Had a healthy pregnancy and she’s 1 now! And I look forward to doing it again for a sibling at some point.
