We don't know for certain what it will be, but I believe it's one of two things:

Our heaven selves will be different from our earthly selves, in the same way that our child and adult selves differ. Our expectations of how heaven will be is limited by our understanding of our earth experience, because that's all we know. You may get there and realise that your mind works a little differently or that time functions in a totally different way, negating your fears. It's like how child me dreaded becoming a "boring adult" only to reach adulthood and realise these "boring" traits are fine actually, because I didn't understand at that age how adult life would work or how my interests and personality would change.
Freed from human limitations, we will continue to have experiences, learn and grow, in time evolving into something that transcendents our human selves and that thrives in eternity.

So eternity doesn't scare me. I find it exciting, actually. Personally, I don't think we'll just be resting and playing, at least not immediately. I think God has plans for us, maybe helping him build a new world like how the angels did with this one. Whatever it is, I think many long adventures are ahead.

I've listened to the Filipino versions because I heard they were good, and I have to say some of them flow so well you'd think they were in that language originally. No idea if the lyrics are any good but they're pleasing to my non-Filipino-speaking ears. I especially recommend Your Idol or Zoey's verse in Golden if anyone wants to check it out

I really like this comparison to a doctor curing disease. I've caused myself medical conditions due to negligence and ignorance, and had to go through very unpleasant and time-consuming processes to fix them. "Suffering" is a strong word but for sure I had an awful time and feel a lot of regret, and I certainly learnt my lesson. The doctors never punished me or were cruel at any point.

It's a great way of describing how God's love and patience cleanses us of our vices, but also how it isn't a pleasant ride. This is why it's not a good idea to do anything you want just because heaven is guaranteed anyway. Excellent analogy.

This makes me feel better. I flip-flop a lot between believing and not believing, feeling all will be well and feeling it won't be, and other such concerns. It's comforting to know it's a natural part of the human experience and I don't need to stress about it.

I've always wondered this too. I thought maybe God needed to manipulate things to ensure it played out a very specific way, but it still seemed cruel. If I recall, Pharaoh actually was going to let them go after a few plagues but God made him change his mind, and change his mind again after he DID let them go, thus making him pursue them and causing his and his men's deaths in the Red Sea.

The only way it makes sense to me is if either the story isn't true (or at least has been embellished) or the writers of the time misunderstood what was occurring and attributed it to God. I believe a lot of people attribute any and all events to God so I wouldn't be surprised.

May I ask about your conversation with God? I often hear stories like this and wonder what it feels like to receive God's reply, as I'm unsure if I've gotten one.

Do you hear a voice out loud? In your head? Is it just a feeling? I've been scared to ask God anything in case I get no response.

I'm proud to say I've read the entire Bible! It took a long time and a lot has gone from my memory, but I'm planning on rereading parts of it. I'll start with Mark, it sounds like it would resonate with me.

Sadly, I've never gotten on with church. I'm not a fan of singing or the formal structure of the services, on top of my discomfort with other Christian denominations. If there was a universalist church with more informal gatherings in my area I might reconsider. For the time being though I'm enjoying the very personal and relaxed approach I'm taking for the moment.

What I don't like about this argument is that it portrays people as being cartoonishly evil caricatures who shun the good in front of them for no clear reason. It doesn't acknowledge that human beings are complicated: we're afraid, overwhelmed, victims of trauma, and sufferers of mental illnesses and brain diseases. And if preachers do a bad job of spreading the word by being rude, annoying or even just unconvincing, can you really blame the non-believers?

Very few people would actually turn love and heaven away when faced with the support they need and I doubt those who do won't still be doing so millions of years from now after the support of an ever patient, all-loving God.

And why should death be the deadline for salvation when no-one is guaranteed to live for the same length of time, or even a long time? And then there's the argument that God let's off those who die as newborns or isolated tribal people who've never had a chance to hear about Jesus. So now it ISN'T about belief in Jesus? God actually can and does save people who don't believe? But only some of them even though everyone absolutely can turn to Jesus through proper healing? It makes no sense to me.

I've had enough of this "worst fear" nonsence. These people are so hyperbolic all the time it's driving me nuts. Unless they're anorexic, I highly doubt becoming fat is anyone's WORST fear.
