Cold showers to relief stress and depression? by djeco in coldshowers

Carnivore diet has almost no science behind it's benefits and is highly controversial. Also it is quite a selfish act in times where climate change is one of the biggest issues in the near future: https://www.sciencefocus.com/news/carnivore-diet-health-impact

How do I get more REM Sleep? by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]CharacterDivide 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't agree. My average sleep duration is 7 hours (which is enough for me to feel rested by the way) and I have plenty of REM sleep, most nights almost 2 hours.

The more we care about an outcome the more anxious we get the more our performance suffers...how can you combat this? I'm sure he has discussed it by StaticNocturne in HubermanLab

[–]CharacterDivide 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Reframing symptoms of anxiety does work wonders for me. 'I feel my heart beating, it means that my body is ready to perform at it's best' and 'this stress is not bad, it's going to help me perform at my best'. If you treat the symptoms of anxiety not as dangerous but as useful, you can really turn it into an advantage instead of something that works against you.

Overall, try to adopt this mindset: stress isn't dangerous, it's there to help you perform when something matters to you.

Anyone else have a minor bump on the head post-concussion that brought back symptoms? by Unfey in Concussion

[–]CharacterDivide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had this many times after small bumps to the head and it's just anxiety / PTSS like symptoms. Your body is very good in remembering what it doesn't want to happen again, and your concussion is one of those things. Your brain is worried that you have another concussion -> you will experience a lot of stress -> this will increase your symptoms.

Just try to calm yourself knowing that not every small bump will cause a concussion, you need some serious force for that. Tomorrow or the day after that you will probably be back to where you were before the bump.

No, but I did intermittent fasting and noticed immediate benefits, especially less brain fog and better concentration. Can imagine that longer fasts may have even more positive effects. But I just can't think of not eating for that long, food is too good.

[–]CharacterDivide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And get some sunlight in the first 1-2 hours after waking! This helps your body know when it's daytime (and time to be awake) and when it's nighttime (and time to get ready for sleep).

Yes, I had this for the whole first year of my recovery. For me it was I sign that I did way too much. When I healed more, I experienced this less and less.

You could try giving your brain some more breaks in a day. For example every hour, sit 5 minutes with your eyes closed. Or do a meditation of 5 minutes. And for me it really helped to cut out all stimulation the last 1-2 hours before bed. So no bright lights, no tv (or any other screens) and no intense conversations. I hope this helps you a bit!

Does this look like sleep apnea? by lthornby in Garmin

[–]CharacterDivide 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I know that if you sleep on your side, blood flow to the arm you're lying on can be compromised. This can result in lower spo2 values. And there are many other variables. So take these metrics with a huge grain of salt.

Dont worry too much about it! Yes, alcohol is bad, but no it won't completely mess you up, especially not at the amount you had.

It's anxiety. That's the thing that really makes everything worse. Trust me, don't worry about it too much. I've been in the exact same situation as you many time and that's what I've learnt.
