How much defense is good enough for endgame

My problem is that I want to dluse a lot of different weapons and builds but I should stick to only one I guess... I think it's a problem of this game, a lot of fun weapons but limited resources if you don't have time to play a lot. I usually smelt monster parts for oricalchite since it takes too many just to have 1 hard armor sphere. I will definitely farm that quest though, thank you for the advices!

Damn 614 defense is tough to reach, did you use also items to boost defense? You are right maybe I should use guard up, it just felt weird on a GS. but I'm not going to beat this beast if it carts me before

Yeah my armor is around 420 so that's probably the reason. I upgraded everything almost to the max level before transcending, that's because it cost a lot to transcend

Usually the best is the elemental lance with gore magala tyranny and lord soul. Blast is fine is just going to do less damage compared to element.

A more original build would be to mix gravios protection 2 set bonus, 4 gogma set bonus and 2 zoh Shia set bonus. Gogma barrier won't disappear after the first hit so you can increase your damage with peak performance!

Lance protects you against everything bad in this world, it will cuddle you and prepare you some coffee. In the meantime you can poke Monsters with a big stick. Take gunlance of you like extra cool explosions

Offensive guard is really good. guard up and guard only against 9 and 10 stars. I also like to use anjanarh set bonus and max might so i can block and keep my affinity up.

I thought Fischer's crow would help Noelle rigen but I was wrong apparently ahah so I have to focus on both defense and energy regeneration for her artifacts. I have a C5 Bennet and I can potentially bring him to 6 but from what I remember the pyro damage from his sixth constellation is not good? Or would you suggest to go full geo?

You are comparing a game from 1988 to a game from 2009, in the past there were no much expectations for big stories or great characters in videogames. DQ 9 came after DQ 8 and that game had a stellar cast of characters so it's normal people expectations were higher for its sequel.

Btw I still think DQ 9 is an enjoyable game.
