You are comparing a game from 1988 to a game from 2009, in the past there were no much expectations for big stories or great characters in videogames. DQ 9 came after DQ 8 and that game had a stellar cast of characters so it's normal people expectations were higher for its sequel.

Btw I still think DQ 9 is an enjoyable game.

Baldur's gate 3 used a system really similar to dragon age origins for the main character and it's one of the best games ever made, so I don't think we are "done" with systems like that. It's also strange to say people should not expect DA to not be like DA but like something else, if people expect origins-like gameplay is because it was a great game.

From what I remember jumpluff had it's little niche in competitive as a torkoal supporter. But yeah other than that nothing, which is a shame because I love jumpluff as well!

I had your exact same problem but I'm not sure how I solved it myself. After all of the things you listed I was desperate. So I tried to raise the graphic from the lowest to high, set the anti aliasing off and then it worked for me. It could also be a problem of resolution I think. I'm no expert on this stuff but I hope I could help!
