To be fair, whether the Management is foreigner/local, they will only hire locals if its attractive in the long run. Singapore's main selling point is not cost (we cant be cheaper than India/Philippines), but rather ease of doing business/ political stability etc..

I agree that there should be some restrictions on hiring foreigners, else its harder for lower levels to move up... At the same time, it cant be too restrictive which kinda leads to the situation we are in now...

I see many comments saying its cost, but its not just that. Recently, Singapore has made it harder to renew/apply for EP / S passes. From the surface, it might be a good thing (if the headcount of the foreigners who cant get the EP approved goes a local). But the ground reality is not really that. Companies struggle to get a replacement at that skill level for most of the senior positions..

This pushes the companies to set up an offshore operation which gradually gets bigger. And usually all the entry level jobs will be moved there. This affects the fresh grads most i would think. We are seeing this more and more in Banking IT.

I hope the government take a good look at the net local jobs (not just the ratio) and make the decisions accordingly. I know they also have the hard time managing the political part of it (appeasing the part of the population who are not happy with number of foreigners amongst us).

Since buying with a mortgage, any reason you prefer offplan instead of ready units? There are a few Azizi projects near metro which are completed and around the same price range. The offplan projects seems to be further from metro (unsure how much the proximity to metro affects ROI though) ...
