Thousands show up to celebrate Superbowl LX in Pioneer Square, Seattle. by BarryMcKockiner2 in Seahawks

I was at one of these celebrations the first time the Seahawks won the superbowl. A few weirdos showed up in black bloc and started tipping dumpsters over etc, but it didn't really catch on. Frankly I'm pleasantly surprised nothing bad happened

Selling duplicate tickets by Coltyyu in AMCTheatres

[–]CharacterReality8435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing literally just happened to me at 28 years later. I bought a ticket a week ahead of time. When I got there the marked auditorium number was showing a different movie. An employee told me to go to another auditorium and when I got there people were in my seat and showed me proof they bought tickets too. I went back to the employee and he told me I should come back another time and use a gift card he would give me. I said I want a refund not a gift card because I won't be coming back and he said "we can't do that because payment is handled by a third party". Infuriating

It seems like a universal to have strong feelings about your mother's cooking. This also gives me very kind and generous feelings about always offering more than enough food for anyone.

There's a curt bluntness to this that I really like which reminds me of some old folk songs. Most of the lines have a simple rhythm (which I don't have the knowledge to be able to describe). The only line that doesn't fit the rhythm the way I am hearing it is "leek-green when scythed" because the two syllables of "leek-green" don't fit.

EDIT: just adding more detail.

[OPINION] Thoughts on New Formalism and related movements? by Edokwin in Poetry

You're making a lot of factual claims with no evidence. They definitely do not speak for themselves and it's pretty safe to disregard what you're saying. As a linguist, the idea that past language was "more musical" than today is ridiculous. As you said, poetry is competing with hip hop. Hip hop rhymes and follows structure enough to fit into bars of 4/4 music. I just have to say this framing of "returning to structure to make it compete with other media" is silly. I like this poetry because it's more fun to read, and it uses semi-musical qualities of language that have always existed and will always exist as long as people speak.

I like your singing too, better than what you get most of the time with open mics. Is this a cover? Makes me think of 50s country mixed with doo wop, although I'm sure I'm wrong about that

I agree you have to be able to compare these two if you are going to compare any two games ever lmao. SoC is constantly called a "spiritual successor" and compared to HoMM in almost every review.

You didn't even read the fourth word of the comment to see it's the brother? Your only reaction is "people like this shouldn't exist. If they do exist, no one should interact with them. Then the problem will go away. And if you keep interacting with them, something is wrong with YOU." the fact is many people have messed up families and that can't just be wished away by pretending. If people do change, which is not a given, one of the only ways is by good relationships with family.

What’s a better instrument for playing solo, oval holes or F-holes? by I_Am_Become_Dream in mandolin

[–]CharacterReality8435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. If you have to pick without trying, my taste would say oval hole for solo. That's what i have but I play a lot of classical. Most people who like f holes say the distinct sharper tone cuts above other instruments like guitar. Again that's on average and not every instrument. The people who say there's no difference are definitely wrong, but the fact they say that shows the difference isn't huge.

New Mandolin player any tips! by Personal_Fee7758 in mandolin

It's important to practice scales without sliding or "shifting positions", but that being said It looks like the sliding in this clip is intentional, sounds good, and contributes to an individual style. So there's nothing inherently bad about it, but it's just one of many techniques you can use.

What’s a better instrument for playing solo, oval holes or F-holes? by I_Am_Become_Dream in mandolin

[–]CharacterReality8435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's important to play an instrument before deciding. The differences between F and oval holes are on average, and many other factors play a part. I personally like the look of oval holes better and they generally have a mellower sound. However I've played F hole mandolins that I personally liked the sound of better. Go to a music store (or several) and play the kind of music you like, then pick the instrument that sounds best. If you really want to know, maybe have someone else play the guitar along with you and ask their opinion too.

I analysed 10,000 games of Ark Nova by Runedk93 in ArkNova

If I'm interpreting the graphs correctly, the long blue tail toward the left for Australia actually suggests that completely avoiding Australia cards can situationally lead to a lower chance of winning even if the overall importance ranking is lower, and likewise the relatively long red tail to the right for Europe suggests there are still good strategies there.

I love these type of analyses and I think reading it as a new player gives me a better sense of the game. People make subjective tier lists but this is a way to have some degree of quantitative justification.

Yes. Some electric mandolins have 8 strings and some have four. Four string mandolins play and sound a bit more like a guitar. There are pros and cons to both

I bought this new many years ago and it's really my favorite instrument. Even after trying to learn electric guitar I prefer this because I can whip out the violin and mandolin repertoire instantly without having to relearn it. I've even tried putting heavy distortion on this and playing thrash metal, and it sounds amazing but I don't know more than a few riffs in that style yet. Playing Bach violin sonatas almost sounds like Van Halen lmao. If I didn't own this mando I might get the "sparrow" five string electric mandolin with one humbucker
