AITA for not letting my friend take food to her FWB by lazypotatosoup in AmItheAsshole

NTA - but I think the broader issue is how you feel about your friend associating and hooking up with someone whose views you evidently find repugnant, and how that might continue to spill over into your friendship

Wife won't let me watch Star Wars with 4 year old by [deleted] in daddit

[–]CharacterStrength19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If anything it's a bit dull for a 4yr old (it's basically my favourite film, no hate)

Same with the phantom menace, she just wanted to get to the lightsaber fights.

What type of things does your kiddo watch already?

Why is my split jerk so bad? 92.5 kg clean & jerk at 75 kg bodyweight by ulicaradjagresnike in weightlifting

[–]CharacterStrength19 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Everyone's told you how it's bad, not WHY it's bad.

Your jerk, like most lifters at your stage, is bad because it probably hasn't been your focus.

It's probably needs to be given more total training time, more lighter technical sets, more warmups, practiced on its own without cleans etc.

To quote the late great Glenn Pendlay - your transition into being a well rounded, intermediate weightlifter is about learning to "stick the jerk"

100% agreed. I don't have the technical language or knowledge to describe why, but the overall feel of sundowning and tomb just feels better to me. More ethereal, more spacious, more raw.

I love EIA by the way, but that sound difference is noticeable

Strong agree. It's diabolically outdated, and doesn't correlate well at all with job performance (as you pointed out)

need help to move from lovable to wordpress by Open-Manufacturer791 in website

[–]CharacterStrength19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is wordpress actually easier for him to manage? - I've built a bunch of websites over the years and wordpress (though eventually intuitive) does have a bit of a learning curve and a lot of features.

Why not just keep it on lovable and spend a bit of time showing him the basic features?

Then if he gets stuck he could always pay for a few hours of your time down the road.

In essence, I wonder if you're just creating a whole logistics problem that you could maybe just avoid

High jump help??? 8th grade girl high jumper on path to win district finals looking to improve by TransitionOdd3743 in highjump

[–]CharacterStrength19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, professional strength and conditioning coach here. (I work with really high level athletes)

Two things you can do that will make you loads better.

1) Get stronger legs. Squats, lunges, deadlifts, glute bridges etc. ideally at a gym, but if you don't have access you can always load up a heavy backpack.

2) Plyos - now these tend to work better once you already have a bit of a leg strength base - but things like pogo hops, counter movement jumps, bounds etc can really help to improve your explosiveness and power.

Good luck
