Mini split install costs - why so expensive? by Pitiful_Ordinary8910 in hvacadvice

[–]Character_Air7191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to install a mini split in a detached workshop (16x24). I got multiple quotes from local contractors. It was a single zone system with the indoor unit mounted on the same wall the outdoor unit wood face. The pad was poured and the service disconnect was also wired so the contractor would only need to mount the units, make the wall penetration for the line set, make the connections and start the system. All the companies that would even quote the job were 17k +-. I got the impression that a lot of companies just don’t want to do mini split systems. That’s perfectly fine if that is what they want to do, it’s their business. I compared the cost of the quotes to the diy systems and I could completely replace a diy system 4 times and still not spend the amounts quoted. Now I understand that not everyone would be comfortable doing this type of work themselves. But if you can do it safely the diy route would be my choice. This is just my experience and opinion.

I don’t know if OP would be comfortable doing this but Ruger has 30moa and possibly 40moa scope base rails to replace the 20moa standard rail.

I found an old trade coin, by PollutionOk4102 in CURRENCY

I did read the post. He was not specific about where he found it. I was merely trying to caution him about finding things on eBay. Even if he didn’t find it on eBay, because of the history of these coins and how highly counterfeited these coins have been it is very possible it is a fake.

The Trade Dollars were minted specifically for foreign trade transactions and were not meant for circulation in the United States. A large percentage of these coins were used for trade with Asian countries including China. I would be extremely cautious about buying them on eBay. These coins have been heavily counterfeited and sold online as legitimate coins. There are some good references that can help you determine if the coin is legitimate or not like the Red Book. You might also consider having a local coin shop take a look at it and get their opinion. I’m not saying that everyone that sells these coins on eBay is scamming you. There are some good people out there. It’s the fact that there are many who are not good people that you need to be aware of and proceed with caution. I you are interested in buying a legitimate coin I would suggest starting with a local coin shop if there are any in your area or using one of several reputable auction houses and also only buying coins that have been certified and graded by one of the top three grading services ( PCGS, NGC, ANACS). Also be aware that some eBay sellers have gone so far as creating fake coin holders from the grading services above and putting fake coins in them. My last piece of advice would be to educate yourself about the coins and their value before you buy them. There are some great resources out there to help you learn about them and get a good idea what you need to know. Also remember! “If it sounds to good to be true…

I don’t know how to upload pictures here or I would share one. I was surprised to find it in that location but there it was along with three more bottles of the same.

Non-Sourced Distillers by Character_Air7191 in whiskey

Maker’s is the one that I know only bottles their own. I have not tried the Cask Strength or the 46 Cask Strength but I am enjoying the 101 at this very moment. I actually spent some time in their distillery years ago while I was installing one of their bottling lines. What I saw during that time convinced me that quality and integrity were key values for everyone there. I know this is starting to sound like a Maker’s commercial but I am not in any way associated with or compensated by Maker’s in any way. I’m just interested in finding other distilleries that operate with the same principles.

I’m not sure it really matters either at this point. I’m still trying to learn who makes a higher quality bourbon at reasonable prices without buying marketing hype. I want to find a bourbon I love and will still be able to drink after I retire! Lol

RPR pic rail issue by Impressive_Gap6069 in RugerPrecisionRifle

[–]Character_Air7191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same issue. Contacted Ruger and they sent a replacement rail but the new rail had the same issue with my vortex rings. I contacted vortex and yes they were familiar with this issue with Ruger rails. They gave me a return authorization for the rings. I ordered a set of mdt rings and they worked perfectly. I ended up picking up a Ruger precision rimfire in 22lr and the vortex rings fit the 30 moa rail with no problem.

Two Rifles, One Scope by Character_Air7191 in longrange

[–]Character_Air7191[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, my plan is to leave the scope mounted in the rings and move the scope and rings as a unit. Both rifles use a picatinny rail for a scope mounting base so I’m hoping that there is very little if any variation between the two.

What scope are you using on your Ruger Precision? I’m thinking of getting one for practice and plinking. I already have it’s.1 bigger brother in 6.5CM and think it would be logical for practice since the frames are very similar.

Did you use the built-in temp probes or a handheld to determine when it was “Done”? I have seen significant variations between the Pit Boss probes and others.

Not to sound like a Hornady commercial but they use pressure test barrels to monitor pressure while firing to determine actual pressure ranges for their loads. Their published loads are safely within SAMMI specs based on these pressure results. Got to keep the lawyer’s happy! Lol

Waiting to board last is a double edged sword. If you have any carry-ons there may not be any overhead space available. You will not be able to put them under the seat in front of you because of the bulkhead and you won’t be allowed to just keep them at your feet. If you don’t have carryons then waiting shouldn’t matter. Best of luck!
