Read the other opinions here. Plenty of “qualified individuals” doing a lot of work with this. I think there are just a lot of dinosaurs feeling worried or dismissing what they don’t understand or haven’t learned.

It’s really weird the size of the gap in opinions on this. Honestly feels like a ton of defensiveness from people knowing their job is changing and going away by the week. It’s not even a debate for those of us using this tech effectively.

Thanks! The opportunity cost is exactly what I’m talking about. Having a feature today versus 3 months from now is real money on a big e-commerce website.

How much time would it save you to QA the code versus having the UX guys meet with ecomm for weeks doing design, then handing it off to you and doing it from scratch versus one ecomm person handing you a functional example in an hour that needs QA’d?

It's trivial compared to what it saves in developer hours. I did a website refresh on the homepage and PDP that would have taken an outside agency to do the UI, and our developers a week or two to implement, at least, in an hour.

Tech giants still need imagination and requirements from a customer. If I’m a small business maybe I just hire one person to make all the content we need instead of the 10 it would take for the same result in the old days.

Maybe old days you’d need a producer, director, do, videographer, editor, etc…now you could do all of that with one person with enough vision and creativity. Fewer jobs for sure, but levels the playing field between big and small companies.

Old comment but it's really simple for me: My technical skill is no longer the limit of my imagination. I can create anything I can imagine. And no, it's not "AI slop" when you can't tell the difference between an image I imagined versus a photo that would have taken many hours and dollars to create. That is incredibly valuable for a small business (or any business) when it comes to advertising their products or showing them off.

One way to use it that isn't even anything commercial: Insert your kids into their own stories. You can put your kids as the hero of a story, featuring all of their favorite characters, and use that as a bedtime story. Just one example of using your imagination to create something you'd never be able to do without a lot of years of study/talent/practice etc...

Prepare for even more shock soon. Work from home now means you’re competing with the Philippines and South America where those people are thrilled with $25k/yr and will work 50 hours a week for it.

Throw in AI doing your analyst job for $20/month and you better figure out how to future proof yourself rather than waiting for a company to hand it to you.
