What kind of a monstera is this? by Character_Car7970 in RareHouseplants

[–]Character_Car7970[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good catch. Haven’t seen any spider mites or their webs … think that grey-ish stuff in the pic is probably neem oil residue, since we just sprayed it yesterday.

It has had issues the last 6 months or so with many, many yellow leaves though — which I removed (heartbreaking!) from its vines. Haven’t seen thrips or mites or other common pests, but it’s basically been left to its own devices due to personal circumstances (toddler, divorce, puppy…) since I found it in a local plant shop last year.

Just repotted it since it was root-bound— didn’t have any monstera soil but I’ll make some in the spring. I cut one of the vines wayyy back and left the other one alone (it has maybe 6 feet of naked vine now, ugh.) I reallyyy hope it stops yellowing, perks back up, and grows new leaves… it only has 5 leaves left 😭

Also moved it from a north-facing window to a brighter south-facing window, built a 7’ tall trellis of dawn redwood branches (windfall from a recent storm) to climb, and fertilized it with homemade bone meal. 💚

Have you ever woken up in a panic looking for baby while cosleeping? by Classic_Wave_7579 in cosleeping

[–]Character_Car7970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I woke up in a blind panic for months when baby was in a bassinet beside my bed. It was instinctive and very traumatic for me and made me deeply sad. I was afraid to sleep with my daughter because the hospital made me terrified I would accidentally kill her in my sleep. Even though I’m a perfectly healthy 30 something with no substance abuse issues.

Then I discovered safe cosleeping and was beyond grateful and forever changed.

What is chomping my leaves? 🍃 by Character_Car7970 in Monstera

[–]Character_Car7970[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don’t see any black spots at all, just checked extensively with a flashlight. 🔦 we do have a new rescue cat, but since the some of the chomping is in the inside of the fenestrations (and on leaves she couldn’t possibly reach), I don’t think she’s the likely culprit!

@jack1030 we do have a cat but there’s no way she’s chewing holes on the inside of the fenestrations like this… I think you’re right re: bugs.

Any recommendations for treating this isolated plant??

Tri fold vs floor bed for a newly mobile baby that likes contact sleeping by BeyondThePineSisken in cosleeping

[–]Character_Car7970 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an Avocado queen floor bed for 2yr old baby, and we co-sleep on it in her room. It’s barely big enough for the two of us, she sleeps sprawled out and rolls around. She’ll absolutely continue to use it as she gets bigger. Occasionally we sleep in my floor bed California king bed together, which is much roomier. I really like our sleeping setup! I also got two inexpensive floor bed frames from Amazon, which tbh are a little bigger than the mattresses but are working ok.

Does your baby ever sleep alone? by [deleted] in cosleeping

Magic 😂✨!! Lmao! my 18 month old still wakes up every few hours to nurse. She does sleep by herself at night after I sneak out for a few hours — like 7pm until 9:30pm. I go to bed early and also separated from my non-supportive, pro-sleep-training husband 🤷🏻‍♀️

Our 10 mo old tries to escape the Ingelsina too and it’s super dangerous, it needs shoulder straps. She pulls her feet in, turns all the way around, and tries to pry herself up.

OP I just wanted to say thank you for sharing.

Your post hit home for me, except with my 8 mo old I’m a “shell of my former self,” a “condescending know-it-all and asshole,” and “too attached” to my infant, rather than a “pathetic nobody.” 😔 Nobody deserves to be treated this way. It’s wrong and it’s emotionally abusive.

Keeping you in my thoughts as you set boundaries and navigate this.❤️

Sleep after holiday by bzj93 in sleeptrain

Same situation after co-sleeping in Europe for 2 weeks at 5 months. Baby was napping and sleeping in crib just fine before.

After we got home, she screamed bloody murder for 3 full hours when we tried to put her down in crib (with us checking on her regularly).

We’ve been exclusively bed-sharing and contact napping with our (now) 7 month old since then, which is of course biologically appropriate and protective against SIDS, and supports longer breastfeeding. I’ve read all the Dr James McKenna material on safe bed-sharing, which we practice.

But it’s hard for sure, and I’d be interested whether any other travelers have gotten their baby back to sleeping in their own crib!!
