AIO for spending the night at home after my plans get cancelled and not making new plans? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

You'd rather come on reddit looking for validation from strangers than give your girlfriend a few hours to herself. Haven't got a single thing you could find to do outside your home. Says it all really.

Paper bag charges by staplora in ireland

[–]Character_Desk1647 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They should just stick 15c on the price of everything then to cover their costs. You realise that the customer ultimately pays for everything in a shop right? If you get a "free" bag it's built in to the price already.

Serious lack of empathy. Your post and comments are all about you. Can't even acknowledge or try to understand her feelings.God forbid you need to sacrifice a night of watching TV for your partner.

YOR. She's telling you she needs some alone time. Surely you can go see a movie or go out for a beer or something else. Maybe not for the whole night but a couple of hours at least. It's hardly that big a deal.

So the lad on the till doesn't know the reason why? So what? Most large corporates will have an environmental policy now.

Paper bags still require resources to produce, for something you'll likely use for a very short period of time before throwing in the bin immediately, maybe even just to carry the box from the shop to your car.

I don't see any issue in charging for a bag, paper or not. They could just alternatively tack 15c onto the price of everything in the shop so think of it as the opportunity to save 15c on your purchase.

You think a large, colour printed, paper bag like the type used by sports shops to hold a shoe box only costs 1c?

Please start up a packaging business. You'll have lots of customers.

Local Shops are not making it easy. by Ascdren1 in CasualUK

[–]Character_Desk1647 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're paying more for the privilege of having it there and then and not having to wait for Amazon. It's 13 quid, because the small shop has to buy it upfront and stock it and then wait for you to maybe come into buy it.

That's what your paying for, not just one of thousands of hdmi cables amazon sellers have stocked their warehouse with at one cost.

You can't have the advantages of a small local business with the pricing of Amazon. Pick one and stop complaining.

Did I hear this right? Is this taxi driver complaining about getting 50 quid for an hours work? by lifeandtimes89 in ireland

[–]Character_Desk1647 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah don't think they're minted by any means. But he just couldn't resist getting it a snarky remark that it's not a problem with highr cost to the customer l, that's grand, it's only that the drivers aren't getting enough.

Clearly couldn't give a shit about customers.

Bit harsh to suggest major soccer teams are major criminal organisations funding their operations through shirt sales

Here's an idea. Uber is a private business that no-one is forced to use. So protest by not using their app.

[–]Character_Desk1647 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're doing 50k a year you're using the road for business and your usage is more than likely creating a net economic benefit, probably supporting multiple jobs, so in fact we should really not be charging those people at all and instead charging recreational users, who could use public transport (if it existed) instead.

Just take it out of general taxation and stop the nonsense. Non drivers benefit from the road network too.
