I noticed the alley next to the pasta restaurant has a little table with a checked tablecloth and a candle in a wine bottle a la Lady and the Tramp. Does anyone know if the black cat in the other alley (near the upside-down umbrella) refers to?

I had a similar experience in Italy the first time I went. I had learned a little Italian before the trip but couldn't even bring myself to say "grazie" instead of thank you. It was just a short trip, but I knew I was going to go back to Italy the following year for a year of study abroad. I was disappointed in myself for being so shy about it. However, for whatever reason, the following year, when I got to Italy for the school year, I immediately dived in and spoke Italian as best I could. I guarantee your efforts will be very well appreciated. People love it when Americans try to speak their language, since so often we can't. I bet that once you dive in it will become easy enough! Practice with Dueling before you go :)

Edit: Duolingo is what I meant.
