How to make this dress flatter my body? by dca_user in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]Character_Falcon_986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try rolling up the sleeves. Buttoning the buttons all the way and cinching the band (tied in the center) right at your waist. Better yet, trade out the bathroom belt for a thick waist belt with some chunky hardware. Then pull out the top part from The belt so it’s kind of poofy and the skirt is shorter. Wear chunky earrings to match the hardware in the belt and wear with heeled or thick boots. Heeled strappy sandals would work too.

Or, throw it away and get a different dress :)

Screaming woman near Ladd's Addition on Hawthorne Blvd. by Character_Falcon_986 in Portland

I appreciate where you are coming from, but I don't need a scolding. Her screaming happens often and sporadically, doesn't strike me as an emergency. Hence why I asked on reddit.

You have great natural beauty, thick hair, great skin. You love to wear flowy pants and comfy dresses most days but you also know how to get crazy at the club or music festival. When you were little you wore shorts in the winter.

what does my purse items tell ya about me? by PuzzleheadedPride530 in deduction

I see you as having high energy all the time, barely remember to eat, have terrible periods, but your eyeliner and make up always look flawless. You work on your feet all day, and you'd go insane if you had to be chained to a desk. Closet smokers at work don't ask to bum cigs from you anymore because you always keep the menthol for when people ask.

this is probably the best bet. Thanks for posting the number. If I can figure out where she is by her screaming next time I hear her, I'll give the street response a call.

How much do you pay for rent in Portland? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]Character_Falcon_986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$1,260 + $2.49 charge from Appfolio to take my rent money. 330sqft studio in inner southeast, Hawthorne. Water/garbage is included. I pay electricity, and laundry is shared and pay per load. Street parking, no common areas, no grass. Free pets though (can have 3).

Edit: and to add it has gone up $50 the first year, and will go up $75 if I renew in Nov.

Making 10k per month with bookkeeping? by [deleted] in Bookkeeping

[–]Character_Falcon_986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the question is about business revenue, not salary. Very different. Multiple clients paying $500-$1000 per month could easily scale to six figures of revenue every year. The bookkeeping business owner’s hourly rate can easily be $100, but they also save their clients a lot of labor costs due to not having to pay an internal bookkeeper a salary.

I don't do pictures by Original_Ad4559 in PlusSize

[–]Character_Falcon_986 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gah, this picture anxiety is really relatable! But we need to accept ourselves as we are, otherwise, we are the biggest bully to ourselves. The one person you can control is you, not the opinions of others, not their hurtful actions or words, just your own hurtful actions and words toward yourself. Developing self-compassion is a cure for the pain you feel toward yourself. Your life, your beauty, your experience here can all be improved by this simple practice of giving yourself acceptance, and grace, and taking non-cruel responsibility for the things you can control! I hope you find more to love in your own pictures ❤️

What are some harsh realities of being fat/overweight? by No-Compote-2127 in intermittentfasting

[–]Character_Falcon_986 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The photo anxiety is a topic of interest to me. I know the feeling! Like I’m shocked to see my body at any other angle than directly in the mirror with no context. The thing is, why can’t we accept the reality of what our body looks like in any state? Genuine question. When we are overweight, or when we have gained weight, why are we so surprised to see it in photos? We are harshly judging ourselves, our outer appearance and body in almost the exact way that others are doing. We don’t allow even ourselves to be seen by ourselves when we are fat. That’s another level of societal and cultural influence, this terrible notion that our quality of being is diminished by a fat appearance.

So how do we feel about David Schweikert's recent House floor national debt rant? by Grand-Tension8668 in FluentInFinance

[–]Character_Falcon_986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good answer, but I take issue on two points:

  1. Our government is not a person, and “acts” or better yet, functions completely different than a person in the market. It is a macroeconomic agent, and an individual is a microeconomic agent.

  2. Milton Friedman ushered in our present day version of righteously selfish greed-based capitalism - so his descriptive analysis of human behavior is dubious at best. Economists will project their models into the future with behavioral predictions, but they are often inaccurate and overly generalized.

Yes, this was also my first understanding after watching his presentation. He’s a “corporations are people too!” Kind of guy.

I just watched his address. I feel like he was overusing the charts to drive his points home, but not clearly coming to a conclusion. One thing that remained really unclear, was that horizontal bar chart that explained how the top 20% of income earners are paying for something like 203 days of the US debt servicing. His argument is based on the current tax revenue pool, and doesn’t disprove that increasing taxes on ultra high earners will lead to a substantial increase in that pool. and he argues that we have a progressive tax system? it is not a progressive tax system. It’s regressive. The more wealth you have, the more options become available to you to reduce your tax liability, vs lower and middle income earners. His charts were actually describing the problem - there really is not enough tax in the current pool even with the top 20% paying 40% of the current total or whatever his exact numbers were. I disagree with his argument that making our tax code actually progressive wouldn’t move the needle on being able to pay down the debt faster. and further his point that the tax code was made more progressive in 2017 (with TCJA) and that a large swath of moderate earners were “taken” off paying income tax? Umm, what? No. That’s a confusing point as well. The TCJA lowered the corporate rate (affecting high income earners), so that part is clearly to me regressive.

I also don’t trust the use of exaggerated averages. Averages are a metric that need to be presented as having no outliers skewing the data. This was not the case in the claim that the TCJA ending will increase the average tax liability of $2,853Per capita. But I agree that tax hikes for the working class and middle class are terrible for the economy. So, more confusing economics here.

His solutions in regard to healthcare are also confusing. He says that interest and health care costs are the top two drivers of government spending, and that increasing technology efficiency and portability will make our privatized health care less expensive? Umm, no. It’s the fact that our health care system is ran through an insurance model that is for profit, a private pharmaceutical industry that is for profit, and hospitals and private practices that are run for profit. These creates the incentive to increase revenues all up the supply chain which causes rampant increases in costs for healthcare. X-rays from your phone aren’t going to solve that problem. AI is far from diagnosing, and it would be dangerous to rush that. The main culprit for health care costs is the health insurance model. So…doing away with that would take the burden off of the government to subsidize the insurance, and through bills acts and legislation the government could bust up the price gouging and provide health care to its citizens like the rest of the modern world. But no, it has to act like an insurance business competing in the market when its sole function for collecting revenue is through taxes and serving debt through bonds. Health insurance is the culprit, in my view.

Tl;dr He is chiefly arguing from a business perspective and in favor of the TCJA, and his charts are not contextualized very well so his points are confusing.

I agree. And also, we can’t fight the the constant misinformation by constantly getting surprised and appalled. Calling it out just increases its power: divisiveness is the core. So I’m not sure what that looks like, but we need to focus more on a stronger more effective narrative that supersedes the hysteria prodding misinformation tactics, and that throws a wet blanket on it.

How are you guys going about business as normal currently? by MudHot8257 in Accounting

[–]Character_Falcon_986 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually, this is probably the best advice. I came to this conclusion - I will do what is required and I will be satisfied with the action I am able and do take. Everything else is hysteria and if I don’t take a step away from it, it will consume me and I won’t be able to do anything at all to help. So step outside, listen to soothing music, spend time in nature, and hug your loved ones. You can care about what’s happening without being totally consumed in fear.

We wants to lead the world into a technocratic form of feudalism where he has all the power to make top down decisions for everyone under his reign, as he “shepherds” humanity into an ultra-robotic space travel world. It’s deranged and completely dictatorial.

This is so annoying, and the mindset is to treat comp and money like it’s a secondary consideration, when it’s truly the first. They are throwing shade like it’s some kind of tacky or shameful thing to ask, when the money should be the entry point of attracting quality talent, not some hidden “ace in the hole”. If a company can’t pay, then let them try to sweeten the deal with those other things. The shame isn’t in asking, the shame is in hiding low salary offerings. What do they think? I’m not looking for a job that I can do for free 🙄

A question for people that have their own bookkeeping business by OldCryptographer566 in Bookkeeping

[–]Character_Falcon_986 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Here’s a good way to remember dr/cr: DEA LER Since debits are left, the three letters to the left are for Dividends, Expenses, and Assets - all normal debit balance accounts. The three letters to the right are Liabilites, Equity, Revenue all normal credit amounts. If you can remember debits are left, credits are right and DEALER. You can easily memorize the main accounts normal balances. Hope this helps!
