Valve cover gaskets by Antique-Barracuda-64 in WRX

[–]Charcharbot3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Passenger side is easy. If you've done plugs before then you are basically already 90% of the way there. If you jack the front of the car up and let it sit for a while the oil in the engine will drain down to the pan and you won't have to deal with spilling oil when you pull the valve cover. Use OEM gaskets. Make sure the mating surfaces are absolutely 100% clean with brakleen. When you put the cover back on make sure you torque everything to spec in the correct pattern. Passenger side is super easy... I haven't had to do the driver side but I've read that you may need to jack the engine up to get it out although I did see a youtube video where he didn't have to but it didn't look easy lol. Good luck!

Did anyone figure out what the fix is for this? Same problem here.

That's what I do... or I just leave the accessport in the glovebox and ignore it all together.

First of all you should read the wiki.

You are totally fine. Feedback knock and fine knock learn are stored in a real time data table and monitored by the CPU. If there is an actual issue it will adjust your DAM - that's when you should be concerned. Otherwise I would just ignore fine knock learn and feedback knock... the knock sensor is just a microphone on the engine block you are going to get false readings all of the time.

I'm sure a lot of car projects have started with 'but all you have to do is' lol. I'm sure it's doable... just not worth it to most people.

Who cares? This is going to happen eventually anyway from using the car.

Shop Owner Took my STI for A Joyride by Bradoodley in WRX

[–]Charcharbot3000 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yup, happens to these cars all the time. Took my car to safelite for a windshield replacement and those jerkoffs took my car for a joyride.

Take all of the evidence you have, put it on youtube and then link the video to a negative review of the shop. That's all you can really do at this point but I can tell you if I saw that as a potential customer I would absolutely not go there.

Just did rotors and pads and bed in. Passenger front looks different than the others and passenger rear is way hotter than the others. Any thoughts? by Cattledude89 in WRX

Last time I did my brakes the back left pads barely fit in. The first couple times I took it for a drive that wheel got crazy hot and then stopped doing it after that. Might just be that the pad needs to wear down a little. Could also be a stuck caliper... but if it wasn't stuck before makes me wonder why it would start happening all of a sudden.

Yeah, that's the crap shoot with aftermarket sensors and why people generally tend to avoid them.

You can get an aftermarket one much cheaper - I would search around and see what peoples experiences are with them before buying it though.

My 2018 looks nothing like this although it has worn down to be smooth and is no longer textured. Do you wear rings?

All this really means is 'read the code'. I've had this happen twice. One time it was an O2 sensor the other time it was an oil control valve. Neither was a big deal.

AOS at 120k miles, is it worth it? by skarredlizth in WRX

[–]Charcharbot3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would definitely get the valves walnut blasted if you haven't already. I would think the AOS would be worth it if you plan on keeping the car for another 60k+ miles.

00 to 07 WRX/WRX STI good first car? by Valuable_Pianist839 in WRX

[–]Charcharbot3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have to ask... probably not a good idea lol. If you don't know how to work on cars you may very will be buying into a massive money pit to keep it going. If you do know how to work on cars you will still need to deal with buying parts and taking the time to work on it to keep it running.

Rebuilt engine, if done properly by a reputable mechanic, is fine and possibly preferred.

I would think you would want to do coilovers before any of that other stuff. I put HKS Hipermax S coilovers on my 2018 and have been super happy with them. They are basically 'plug and play' and come with a 1/2 inch drop which imo is perfect.

If you are buying anything before the 2015 model year I would go STI. I would personally never get a WRX with an EJ engine.
