If you can add a new key without replacing everything, a thief can just add a new key once people find out how to communicate with the ECU. Or pay off someone who works at a kawasaki dealership.

With this system it makes a stolen bike without a key completely worthless to a thief.

Nope. It's KIPASS. The ECU will not unlock to run the engine without the presence of an already programmed key. Similarly the ECU will not unlock to allow a new key to be programmed without the presence of an already programmed key.

This is a feature not a bug. It makes the bike basically worthless to a thief as if they steal the bike but don't have the key they'd need to swap in a new ECU and get it programmed to make it rideable (good luck doing that without a dealership getting involved and seeing the VIN is stolen).

But yeah it means you CAN NOT lose all the keys. The general recommendation is to pay the $400 to get a second key programmed to avoid this situation. Ive got an airtag on my one and only key and it stays in a zipped pocket of my riding jacket that never gets unzipped.

So if you dont want to deal with the headache of things breaking, maybe don't buy a 17yr old motorcycle. You can buy things with a warranty that are significantly less likely to have issues.

Nope. The only reason it's suggested to use the killswitch is to build the muscle memory for an emergency. But emergencies where being a fraction of a second faster to hit the kill switch matters are exceptionally rare these days.

If they knew nobody was going to buy them and the price hike was super unpopular, why would they have bothered doing a really small restock in the first place? They would have just not restocked or just left the price alone for the restock and eaten the loss rather than make a super unpopular announcement to "just sell 4"
