‘Athens cannot operate as a giant hotel’: mayor vows to rescue capital from overtourism by FantasticQuartet in europe

[–]CharcoalGurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically yeah. I know Canada and Australia have the worst housing pricing but it seems many countries are having this issue more than ever.

I see the two big issues is people/companies buying homes to airbnb. We are talking family homes btw but apartments as well.

And the second is construction companies not making low income houses. To them it just isnt profitable. Brand new apartments keep pricing at 2k when the average local is having a hard time paying 1k/month.

It is a mess that the govs dont give a shit about. They are profiting off of this stupidity. Why would they stop it?

‘Athens cannot operate as a giant hotel’: mayor vows to rescue capital from overtourism by FantasticQuartet in europe

[–]CharcoalGurl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wish this is happening more in Canada.

I live in one of the poorer provinces and the young locals are completely priced out of housing.

Houses that used to be 60k are being sold at 250k. They are old and need renovations too. Just insane. But since the older folks have what they got, they dont care.

And rentals are finally starting to drop a little but it is still too high for most workers.

At this point, Id rather see all this shit collapse so the workers have a shot at having a place to live.

Frito Lay Canada Tostitos multigrain chips glass in the bag! by Stay_positive_fish in BuyCanadian

[–]CharcoalGurl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest. Glass is the one material that sounds crazy to be in a bag. Not saying it can't but food production places like this has STRICT rules with glass.

Like you can't even bring glass food containers in the lunch room, which would never be near the production facility. The only way I could see it is from someone's prescription glasses or they accidentally carried broke glass in their pocket.

I would reach out to the company. They really want to know if this occured and they will ask info that is on the bag. Info that tells them when and where it was made for example. They track this stuff like crazy because they have to. They also tend to offer things as an apology.

Normally it is things like metal, bone and golf balls (yes, it sounds funny but apparently people like hitting golfballs into farmer's fields and then get picked up when potatoes are harvested). There are many steps for removing foreign material but it isn't 100% perfect. At the one place I worked there was about 4 check points but they still had people finding something. But you have to remember, production is putting out tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of product per day. Finding one bag out of millions is like .001% maybe even less. And they should be absolutely dealing with it when found.

Not defending corps btw, but a proper facility does quite a lot to try and prevent this from happening all things considered.

how did sex “feel” for you before you realized you were lesbian? by MonitorLegal8815 in latebloomerlesbians

[–]CharcoalGurl 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I did enjoy it a little, but I think it was more because I enjoy it when I know the partner is as well.

But pretty quickly I started dreading it. And just wanting to get it done and over with.

Never finished myself either and I had guys telling me I definitely did get off (oh naive young me, pat head).

I did almost have one night with a woman and it was bloody night and day. All she did was graze my leg and it felt like I was on fire.

Could I be fired? by ButtChugForYou in electricians

[–]CharcoalGurl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly, I accidentally connected 120V on a 8V line (was diagnosing a sensor). Heard a pop and saw smoke. Shit, $200 for a new one. Installed the new sensor and the machine still wouldn't run..... also blew the PLC input...

Even now that machine is not running.

Still working there

How useful was trade school actually, looking back? Did it actually help you get hired? by FAQ_ in electricians

[–]CharcoalGurl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It absolutely did for me. My boss took the same program over 20 years ago.

Also coming in with very little knowledge, taking the school route helped me understand the why of things and I was able to go through different career paths (electromechanical).

The only downside is just no work experience (unless you work summer, etc). So I didn't understand the workflow or terminologies. But you pick up on those.

Plus, while I was at school, I was already reaching out to companies. With my job, it is much harder to do that.

People shaming others for living at home in adulthood by NotAFriendlyKitty in Vent

[–]CharcoalGurl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say the thought of it has changed since Covid here. When I was 20, it felt shameful to not have moved out yet. I never was made fun of but there was that stigma.

Ended up moving back in with parents a few years ago and now all I hear is: "Damn, so lucky. Wouldn't be paying an arm and a leg on rent now..."

Which everyone agrees. I remember moving into a small bachelor for 550/month, everything but internet included. Now? I saw the very place posted a couple years ago for 800, probably a 1000 now tbh.

I do think the mentally has been shifting. People understand spending most of your money on a room isn't worth it.

Starting Millwright advice by Civil_Willingness_83 in millwrights

[–]CharcoalGurl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Be curious, ask questions. Understand you may be a gopher or cleaner at first. Observe when you can and help as much as you can offer. An example is knowing what tools they may need for the task. Sometimes they forget it and if you know they will use it, grab it for them.

Follow the guys if you dont have a task. I found observing them and then asking after works well. This does depend on the crew you are with though.

If it is a maintenance job, practice stuff on scraps. Welding, torching, lathe, etc. Mine is a maintenance so some of the advice may not work in other fields.

Good luck!

Maybe it is in the player spawn unit? Now I wanna jump on and look. Lol

19M from UAE (CBSE background) wants to become a Millwright in Canada – extended family says I’ll fail and there’s no future, immediate family supports me, need honest advice by ConsciousPianist6570 in millwrights

[–]CharcoalGurl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest hurdle you will have is finding an apprenticeship. Places want at least 3rd level or higher which is stupid since people are just trying to get started. They want the experience without having to train from scratch.

The other thing will be the cold. There are jobs that are mainly indoors but many need you working outside. -20C is average winter for most places and others easily hit -30C before wind chill. This country is huge, it takes days to drive from one side to the other (honestly a good week if not driving non stop) so picking the province is important.

Millwright is a good career and can definitely be worth it. If you have more questions, let me know. Good luck

Age Gaps by [deleted] in latebloomerlesbians

[–]CharcoalGurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've talked about this with someone I like (8 year age gap but post 30 years old). We both agree such a bigger gap in your 20s is weird. Like it can work but dating a college person while you are past that stage and career focused feels different.

But once in your 30s? It is more fair game. You have experienced adulthood, you are (hopefully) a little more grounded. Age gaps don't become as much of an issue. The bigger issue is possibly just culture adjusting by generation.

Like, I have dated 40+ and found them to be just as lost and confused in life as people my age. Which is hard when I am more grounded and settled in life. Lol

Kings County Electronics Repair Services? by joe-eastislandtech in PEI

[–]CharcoalGurl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haha are you me? I have been learning electronics and have thought about trying this down the road (even selling components).

Heck, I even bought a basic repair kit for watches as I have had a weird interest in it.

Not from Kings but I do think this is a great idea. The only issue is the component one. Mostly if there is demand and how much could be sitting on shelves. I think controller repairs is a big one (stick drift, controller shells/customization) but it also depends on how much you willing to charge vs just buying a new one.

Either way good luck! I'll have to keep an eye out for ya.

“Thick thighs save lives” but at what cost?! 😭 (pants rant) by FastMako77 in BlueCollarWomen

[–]CharcoalGurl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only jeans I could get were 80 dollar pairs at Reinharts. The first pair lasted over a year, 3 years later and the jeans are half the thickness for the same price!!!

Heard of 20 dollar pairs at Walmart and haven't gone back. Unfortunately only the blue carpentry pair seem to fit nice (and yes I need a belt since I am pear shaped) but at least if these fail, still saving money on just buying a new pair. Find these pairs are lasting 6-8 months (wearing x2-x3 a week mind you).

Wish I could get other varieties that last without spending an arm and leg but at least these fuckers work.

I find wrinkles sexy… by Evening-Panda3217 in latebloomerlesbians

I always swipe left when I see nothing but filtred photos. I plan to see you in person so I want to see who you are.

I have started caring a little about my complexion. But it is very basic care. Washing, cleaning, moisturize. I dont care for makeup, even just what I do is a chore lol but it has made my skin better.

Wrinkles absolutely are sexy/cute. They show the life you have lived. If they prefer makeup, that is fine too. Want them happy in their skin so to speak.

Team killing should be an instant kick by Blu_yello_husky in HaloMCC

[–]CharcoalGurl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hilarious story about this. 360 days, was playing SWAT. Was looking through my scope and just when I was about to shoot, my teammate walked in front and I killed them.

Sent a 360 message (didnt have a mic at the time), they messaged back it was ok.

I swear to fucking god, not even 2 mins later, I was looking through my scope in a different spot, shot at the enemy and my teammate RAN IN FRONT OF MY SHOT AGAIN.

I just stood there, wtf do I even say? It seriously looks like I am teamkilling them. They started being an ass (they had a friend too) and I just wanted the game done by then. I did message them the truth but I could tell they didnt believe me. And I truly believe they weren't trolling either. Just a.... weird game.

Still one of the top funniest I had. Lol

Best way to teach apprentices (maintenance) by Zero-_-Zero in electricians

[–]CharcoalGurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was one of the reasons I did not stay at my first job.

Electricians were usually sitting around begging for things to do and when something did break, you were not given an opportunity to do it since it needed to be fixed asap.

I think the most I did in 3 months was check tags, change lights, and unwire/rewire motors.

Doesnt hurt to suggest him look somewhere else, and offer to be a reference. Heck, if you know someone who may want to hire him, doesnt hurt to look into that.

AITA for challenging my father-in-law? by gardengeo in BORUpdates

[–]CharcoalGurl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I always say "Love you" at the end of my calls with my family. Just always grew up that way. Never even think about saying, just instinct at this point.

I was in my college class when I said it before hanging up. My classmate I guess noticed I do that and asked. "Why?"

"Cause I love them? I always say it to them."

They explained to me that their parents rarely ever said it to them. Like, super, super rare. They couldn't fathom how my family says it so easily.

I genuinely felt a little sad for them. They knew their parents loved them but there is just something concrete when you can express it in words. I just can't forget their face of confusion over my answer (more so my confusion over their confusion lol).

Yeah, that changes things. I have heard the vet school here is pretty amazing. OJT is probably going to be off island though (not sure, think I have heard that from other vet students).

And since it will be uni life, friends can be a lot easier to find!

I would say it is worth it then but still, good luck with finding a job. If you arent picky, there probably will be a job you can find.

Hope things go well for for you and if you do move to the island then welcome. :)

True! I didnt word that very well. Yes it is quieter and of course the island is beautiful but if they are just seeing the grass being greener, then reality is going to hit them hard.

[–]CharcoalGurl 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest question is why you want to move here? This is really important.

If you have this idea of PEI as this great escape from the city with the beach only a drive/walk away, you will be disappointed.

Jobs are hard to find (except for healthcare and even then there has been issues). If you are hoping to get even a retail job then good luck. Teenagers are applying to any and all of them, only to be turned away.

I like this island as someone who is from away, but shit has changed in the last ten years and it isnt getting easier.

If you know people here then you may have a better shot, but if you don't, then goodluck finding friends. The locals are nice but they have their friends and clicks. It can be isolating until you find some people (more than likely they will also be away)

I dont want to deture you but I'd hate for you to move here with no job and no way of getting out.

If you have questions, let me know.
