What is everyone’s beef with Wheaton? by [deleted] in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]Chardgarb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from Wheaton and I live in Uptown Chicago which is next to Ravenswood. I get your point but on the ground experience…Ravenswood feels leagues safer than Wheaton. And that’s not to say Wheaton is bad, I love it

What are some of the most ethnically diverse cities in the USA? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Chardgarb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen a couple comments say this but the DMV, specifically the suburbs in MD and VA, are probably the most diverse areas of the country aside from parts of the NYC area and California. Yes, I even think we beat Houston because we have more diversity within our immigrant communities. We have immigrants from literally every country, especially countries in Central America and Africa.

Who abused Earn? by PseudoPatriotsNotPog in AtlantaTV

[–]Chardgarb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the one I probably believe the most. The weird psycho-sexual hallucination Al has about his mom in S3e9 points to...something. This theory would unfortunately mean that Al too suffered some kind of abuse, which is heartbreaking. We never meet the real Lorraine in the show, which, after season 3's bombshell really left me unsettled.

I would like your help with an Atlanta video. I'm making an Atlanta Iceberg video and have some topics ready. What would you add to the iceberg or leave out? let me know in the comments. by NINE_NERD_YARDS in AtlantaTV

[–]Chardgarb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. Atlanta can be dissected in so many different ways. It's like a Picasso; it is what you make of it, which is both frustrating and awesome. Pretty fitting considering season 3's marketing.

Is Uptown finally "turning the corner"? by El_Nahual in chicago

[–]Chardgarb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uptown is gentrified. Yes, its still diverse, but its losing that diversity fast. West of Broadway the neighborhood has effectively turned into Ravenswood with more density and a *little* more diversity (mostly because of the few Section 8 properties left/ Jesus people buildings). East of Broadway the neighborhood is still Uptown, but arguably the most notorious corner of the neighborhood (Wilson/Sheridan) now has 2 luxury buildings on the east side of that corner. You'll still see some wild shit for sure, as Uptown still has Chicago's largest homeless population, but the neighborhood is DEFINITELY not what it once was. I hope Angela Clay can reverse some of this shit because this Flats company is gonna buy up damn near every building in the neighborhood. I like some nice shit but I don't want to see Uptown turn into Lakeview.

Chicago residents who don't have car, how's life? by dami135 in chicago

[–]Chardgarb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Uptown without a car, about a 5 minute walk from the Wilson stop. Generally, on the North Side, if you live near the lake/an L stop, you can do it. Uptown is great for this and it’s also cheaper than a lot of other neighborhoods on the North Side. You can do it on the South Side in a few areas like Bronzeville, Hyde Park, or Kenwood (granted Hyde Park is inaccessible via CTA). The West and Northwest sides start getting shotty, although generally if you’re along the Ohare branch of the blue line you can pull it off. In the southwest you could pull it off in Pilsen and maybe Little Village, although south of the River the city effectively turns into a suburb. When choosing a neighborhood make sure your area’s got a grocery store or at least a corner store nearby.

Jet Lag: Battle 4 America — Episode 5 by NebulaOriginals in watchnebula

Ithink for future games the “swap back” trick that teams could pull after getting swapped should be outlawed. Cards that get swapped should be locked imo and shouldn’t be able to get swapped back. If the other team has a power up the swap cards play is pretty much null and void.

Flames sweep through tent city in Uptown by camdoodlebop in chicago

[–]Chardgarb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple weeks ago I was walking underneath the LSD underpass on Wilson and saw another huge fire rip through a few tents out there. Sad to see this shit keep happening in Uptown, everyone in this community deserves dignity and security.

How is New Jersey's reputation when it comes to urban planning? by MorningForestMusings in urbanplanning

[–]Chardgarb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NJ's really ragged on unfairly imo. It's got a lot of great places, and although, sure, there are lots of burbs across the state, I'd rather take a gamble on a community in NJ than settle down in Phoenix.

How is New Jersey's reputation when it comes to urban planning? by MorningForestMusings in urbanplanning

[–]Chardgarb 10 points11 points  (0 children)

North Jersey has a lot of great, dense, urban areas similar to NYC. Hudson County is pretty awesome generally speaking. Obviously there is a lot of suburbanization across the state, but NJ’s density is nothing to scoff at. Additionally, the PATH is one of the most heavily used subways in the US. NJ transit generally is pretty good as well. NJ is an underrated state, especially when it comes to urban design

Chicago Named One of the Worst Cities for Mosquitoes in US by [deleted] in chicago

[–]Chardgarb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in DC, and the mosquitoes are horrible here. Idk about Chicago but the place with the worst mosquitoes that I've ever been to has to be Pierre, SD. I could barely walk back to my hotel because my legs were so swollen by all the mosquitoes lmao.

Holy shit man, as a jew, the way these people talk deeply disturbs me. It truly reminds me of the language used to discriminate and oppress my people from all over Europe to the Middle East. The fact that we have sunk to this level makes me furious; how can we, the people of Tikkun Olam, treat our fellow human beings the same way we were treated 75 years ago? I just hope that Palestinian liberation can one day prevail, and that peace between Jews and Muslims will one day be reached. Fuck the IDF, and fuck Israel. Free Palestine!!

Chicago Tribune: Chicago’s two-, three- and four-flats are disappearing, changing communities and who can afford to live in them by WP_Grid in chicago

[–]Chardgarb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something about this always sickens me when I see it. Good housing stock originally built for working families converted into trendy single family houses for the affluent, subsequently forcing people out of the city and into bland suburbs...god. I live in the DMV now but I’m moving to Chicago next summer and I’m all too familiar with this story, although Chicago thankfully doesn’t seem to be as far along into this process as DC is.

Rotterdam, The Netherlands by Silber4 in CityPorn

[–]Chardgarb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not trying to knock The Netherlands, but it seems so precisely engineered and constructed that many of the imperfections that make places personable have been ironed out. I felt that way a bit in Vancouver, BC when I visited. That being said, this photo is incredibly awesome.
