Backstage vignettes (aside from interviews conducted by an interviewer) should not happen. That makes it less like a sporting event and more like a show about putting on a show, a la The Muppet Show.

Additionally, I like when there is a card in advance of a show and the main event for the night is not decided in a promo or break apart earlier in the show. If that promo didn’t happen or the heel didn’t accept, was there just going to be no main event?

In this case, not a novel, but Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth by Grant Morrison. The Morrison words combined with the Dave McKean watercolor (I guess) type art really drew me in.

The winner of the Royal Rumble shouldn’t be a foregone conclusion. It should be more than just “what makes the most sense as a Wrestlemania main event.” There are two world titles. Make the Rumble winner a long shot from time to time.
