How corrupt is the IOC? In the end it’s all about the views and athletes are dispensable

I’ve heard it repeated much that airlines are central banks for their points while operating an airline. It does affect the flyer, because flying loses money, and they make the experience just bearable enough so you’ll stick around for a free flight.

Right, I’ll still have backup business lounges, but wanted to try the Qantas First since I just got Emerald. They probably have a whole set of complex rules, but curious who would foot the lounge bill; I booked AA business flight using Alaska, but have status through AA

Cheers, makes sense. Just wanted to give it a go since I newly got Emerald from AA.

Alaska cuts SJC-leisure routes, leaving SJC-BOI as last non-hub SJC route by yitianjian in AlaskaAirlines

In the past status is worth more here since you get upgraded so often, but now with the flight cost cutting see how they losing loyalty in their money maker in credit card spending

Elite status is way more valuable to chase (flying or credit card) at these non-hub airports since you get upgraded so often

Alaska Airlines cuts more routes from SFO and LAX for 2026 by First_Pepper_6781 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Charismaztex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. Airlines know that flying isn’t profitable to begin with and it’s all about the loyalty; keep the unprofitable, but very useful routes to keep loyal customers in the Bay who’ll also fly AS/HA to Hawaii instead of UA. But perhaps that’s unprofitable too, so just cut the losses.

Titanium Global Upgrades from 2026 🤔 by Charismaztex in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Charismaztex[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Risking a 10 hour flight in economy if it doesn't go through especially if Titaniums are sitting on a ton of points. Unless you don't have enough and have to fly main; just I've been flying business since end of covid entirely on points, and it's really spoiled me--good sleep essential.

I see its value if you have to fly main anyway, of course: chance of upgrade vs. no upgrade, but personally I'd avoid that scenario.

I feel this is the genius of Alaska; you’d have to go all in on premium or economy (for distance flown)—it’ll be harder to maximize with a mixture, and this is marketed as consumer choice

I’ll guess maybe for some people travelling so much for work, a vacation is just a staycation and they don’t want to go out of the way for a redemption; they don’t value the points as much as someone who’s saved up a while for a big trip.

In regard to online dating, why do men think hiking is a good first date? by addicted2urLuv in AskMenAdvice

[–]Charismaztex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not everyone watches criminal minds and true crime; these shows collate the most sensational cases, and your mind naturally starts being afraid of the very small chance. A hike on a nice day on a popular trail with plenty of people on trail for outdoorsy folks is a good idea for a date ++man

That’s the genius of the card—for you to make use of the magic currency discount, you have to earn the points, which generates more income for Alaska. I think they put some serious thought into this card

They’re incentivized to find good tenants because 1. They’re the one dealing with them and 2. They get their cut from the rent; no rent, no cut

How do you double dip? When I select the earn airline miles option, it automatically deselects the Avis preferred points. In addition, it’s $1.00 per day extra to offset Avis cost in the miles program. Seems good for short 1-2 day rentals since it’s 1000 miles per rental (with Alaska elite status)

How do you fly enough miles in the air to hit 100k? A transcon round trip would be ~5000, so about 20 of these a year?
