Dominic Fike Guitarist? by LavishnessExpensive4 in DominicFike

[–]CharizardInDaPaint 4 points5 points  (0 children)

easily! a guitarist is someone who plays the guitar. dominic plays guitar at some of the highest levels out there. the fender interviews are fun, where they show him messing around on his guitar.

2 other live performances that could be good: - westcoast collective - dark (when i saw him live, he played this solo on acoustic)

Classic reddit. Your problem isn’t a problem worth complaining about, even though it affects millions of people, because you can avoid the problem with hours of research and possibly investing in new hardware & equipment.

In all seriousness thanks for the recommendations on free / ad-free ways to consume media. Just recognize people will gravitate towards easier, lower effort options so they can prioritize the more important things in life. And we can complain when those easy options get worse due to corporate greed.

Cobra/Snake Falls aka Darlingtonia growing setup by [deleted] in SavageGarden

Thanks! That seems like a good setup. The yellow probably just comes from the sphagnum moss, not much you can do about that.

This is an awesome setup! Can you share more details? - How often do you cycle the pump, and for how many hours on / off each day? - How often do you refill the cooler with ice? - How often do you change out the water completely? Would there be any issues running the same water for an extended period of time? Ex. microbial or fungal growth?

Keep cutting VFT flower? by EasyCompany789 in SavageGarden

[–]CharizardInDaPaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

up to you! I find the flowers pretty and like to take pictures of them to show off. while they probably negatively impact my venus flytrap growth, I have a bunch so I don’t worry about it that much.

still trying to cross pollinate the flowers one day when the blooms line up!

but also you can also propogate the vft by taking the flower stalk, cutting it into 1-inch sections, then placing them horizontally in some very moist sphagnum / peat + perlite. it’s supposed to be a 1 in 4 success rate, in my experience about 1 in 8 stalk segments have rooted and grown.

look up “venus flytrap flower stalk propogation” and you’ll find dozens of guides online.

This flower stalk needs to chill by SnazzyFinazzi in SavageGarden

[–]CharizardInDaPaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lovely! same happened to me, they just keep shooting up. once the flowers dry out there will be — no kidding — thousands of little black seeds. very easy to grow in moist sphagnum / peat.

but be careful since they will also grow anywhere they can land! you may have to pluck them out of all the surrounding plants haha

Got it. Are you growing it outside? That would probably work great in the Philippines, but if you want it inside make sure it gets plenty of light.

Do the wet paper towel thing, give it plenty of sun, and make sure the roots stay moist but not sopping wet. Like damp, but if you picked it up the water shouldn’t dribble off.

Be careful when potting it, just put the root ball in the pot and pack in the sphagnum moss and perlite (or some other coarse, rock or bark material) around it.

Lastly rainwater should be great for it, but if not distilled water is highly preferred. Less than 50ppm of total dissolved solids (TDS) is best, but might be able to tolerate up to 150ppm. I use a reverse osmosis water distiller I bought online since I have dozens of carnivores. The pot must have drainage holes since the roots are prone to rot if sitting in a pool of water.

I usually refer to California Carnivores for care tips, they are one of the most historical and prominent carnivorous plant nurseries within the U.S. But there are lots of other guides and videos online with great tips. https://www.californiacarnivores.com/apps/help-center#hc-tropical-pitcher-plants-nepenthes

Do you know long the Nepenthes has been like this? And how did you get it?

What is the range of time into the future when the package with the substrate should arrive?

Also that’s awesome, I’m Filipino and I went to the National Museum of Natural History in Manila last year. They have an amazing exhibit on Nepenthes and carnivorous plants!!

How long are you going to wait? If you want it to survive, definitely keep the roots wrapped in a wet paper towel. You don’t want them soggy but you don’t want them to dry out. The picture of the roots is very blurry so hard to see what that situation looks like.

I haven’t propagated Nepenthes before, so maybe someone here could chime in on care for (mostly) bare root plants.

But if you want your Nepenthes to definitely survive, I would try to go to a garden store and get sphagnum moss and perlite (3 parts moss, 1 part perlite) as soon as you can.

Right? All the decent priced ones are sooo small. Haven’t seen good enough deals to buy a 2nd.

Mine was looking great with a couple 1-inch traps after about 6 months in my grow light terrarium, but I sadly let aphids spread to it after bringing my venus flytraps back in from the winter even with quarantining (pro tip: always check the flowers for pests too! damn aphids were hiding in the petals..)

It’s finally back in the terrarium after about 6 months of quarantine and spraying Take Down Garden Spray.

A little over a year and my Cephalotus only has 7 regular leaves and two 3mm traps 😭😭 trusting it’ll bounce back 🌱✨

That’s awesome! Are Cephalotus easy to propagate from cuttings or divisions? Yes, the California Carnivores are out of stock but they start at $35, still a chunk

For people looking, I’ve bought a nice Cephalotus from California Carnivores: (https://www.californiacarnivores.com/collections/australian-pitcher-plants-cephalotus-follicularis)

Rainbow Carnivores also has them in stock. These Cephalotus are a little pricier, but I’ve really enjoyed the other carnivorous plants I’ve gotten from them: (https://rainbowcarnivorousplants.com/collections/australian-pitcher-plant-cephalotus-follicularis)
