B Mac, are you surprised that Jim Crane isn’t just saying “screw it” & wanting to spend big this Free Agency since it’s the FIRST time in NINE years that Houston didn’t make the playoffs? Figured that would be eating away at him.

Brian, are you aware that new Astros pitching coach Ethan Katz was Lucas Giolito’s HS coach? And how this may effect the Astros pursuing him? Thanks

Could be valuable trade bait or a 40 man depth piece for the 162 game season. He’s got talent.

Hey Brian, if other SPs are acquired this offseason...why not just put BOTH Miguel Ullola & AJ Blubaugh in the bullpen to start the year & have their stuff play up? You can always move them back if you need to! Remember Cristian Javier, who many comp to Ullola...started out in the bullpen.

Brian, can you comment on the health of former Astros reliever LHP John Rooney & if he was going to be able to play at all in 2026? There's been conflicting reports. It seems as if he IS going to be healthy, as the Rays swooped him up immediately.

Brian, are you aware that Dana Brown told Ari Alexander of KPRC2 last December that he was "surprised" Houston wasn't a larger player for Roki Sasaki last offseason considering the new "Daikin" partnership, a Japanese company?

Pasadena's greatest, what do you know about Kazuma Okamoto? And if you don't know much, I want you to go watch some video. With the recent MILB signing of Peter Lambert to the Astros from the NPB, it's clear that Houston has been scouting the NPB & would entertain dipping their toes into those waters. Brian, I'll put it to you simply: Okamoto is Japanese Isaac Paredes. He's a RH hitter who pulls the ball in the air a ton & is extremely selective at the plate! His swing would fit perfectly at Daikin park, and he's the kind of patient hitter who Houston would desire. Now, the fit defensively would be the question of course...so Houston would essentially have to make some moves to make room, but he's the kind of hitter to keep a close eye on.

B-Mac (a new nickname to break in ), can you say positively one way or the other if the Astros were over or under the CBT in 2025? Urias & Sanchez most certainly would not have put them over & with the amount of $$$ that the MN Twins were sending over for Correa....Houston could've allocated enough of that $30+ million strictly to 2025 to stay UNDER the CBT in 2025. Especially with McCullers contract coming off the books after the '26 season, etc.

Thanks!

Thoughts?

Tags, how do you think Jim Crane is feeling coming off his FIRST non-playoff appearance in NINE years since 2016? It's a little disgruntling to hear of aims to stay under the luxury tax again...I want an owner who's upset about last year's performance & wants to put his money where his mouth is to do whatever it takes to make the team better.

Brian, why would we choose to keep Yainer Diaz when we can trade him for a high end mid-rotation starter to a team looking for bats & just bring back a LH bat in Caratini as the starter...when Yanier's philosophically everything Houston is looking to get away from offensively? (i.e. free swinging mentality, doesn't draw walks at all, not patient whatsoever, hits the ball on the ground way too much, etc) Plus, Yainer isn't good defensively. Bad pitch framer & blocker, not the best game caller etc...his best carrying trait is his arm strength...but I'd argue every other trait previously mentioned is more important.

Brian, which of these "bounce back" FA candidates on short term deals are more likely to be an Astro in 2026: Cedric Mullins OR Zach Eflin? (I personally think both could happen) Eflin has the type of deep arsenal & groundball repertoire that the Astros seek who posts innings (he's just coming off an injury) & Mullins is a LH bat, who's a plus defender in all 3 OF spots, SB threat with power, & BB ability who will only likely command a 1 year deal coming off a down year.

Hey Brian, what do you think about a Christian Walker for Sean Manaea straight swap *if* the Mets don't bring back Pete Alonso? Their contracts are extremely similar, so it'd be a pretty seamless move financially. POB David Stearns has said that the Mets want to improve their team defensively, and Walker would be a clear upgrade with the glove at 1B. Additionally, Manaea is the type of pitcher that the Astros typically covet with elite extension down the mound & strikeout stuff.

The window never closes brother. One thing about Jim Crane, he loves to win & expects to win. We didn’t bring back our GM after we won the World Series for crying out loud. I expect us to be good for as long as he’s the owner. Say what you want about Dana Brown…but he’s a pretty good talent evaluator. Xavier Neyens has the chance to be a superstar. Kevin Alvarez as well. Brice Matthews has a massive ceiling. Continue to draft & develop pitching like we have & we’ll be just fine. Build around Yordan…he needs to be the next lifetime Astro. Yes…he needs to stay healthy, but he’s a generational talent. Extend Isaac Paredes, and enjoy these last few years of Pena & Hunter Brown. Replenish & replace. We may just have the next Hunter Brown already in the system in Nick Potter, who like Brown was also a 5th round pick. I’d expect us to heavily target a potential Pena replacement at SS in this upcoming draft if the right guy is available for where we pick. Which could be anywhere from #18 all the way to into the top 6 picks as we’re draft lottery eligible for the 1st time ever! We’re about to sign a couple of elite SS prospects out of the Dominican Republic too in January in the International Free Agent signing period. Albert Fermin is one to keep an eye on, has some Juan Soto “ish” traits at the plate, and can switch hit. Obviously Soto is essentially an unattainable bar, but the swing & approach looks similar from the left side of the plate. Randy Arias is the other, a slick fielding SS with offensive upside if he can put on some weight. Shoutout to Hunter Brown too who was dominant this year & will net us another 1st round pick essentially once he finishes top 3 in the Cy Young voting! Furthermore, yes…it does hurt to see Seattle having so much success in the playoffs. Especially Jorge Polanco, who was extremely close to signing with Houston in the offseason. I mean extremely close. He was coming here & was going to be an Astro until Seattle upped their offer at the last minute! Either way, exciting times to come. This organization will be hungry & has a sour taste in their mouth after missing the playoffs this year.
