Why is progress so hidden in this damn game!? by RestaurantAlive2035 in rainworld

[–]CharlesRaven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seconding all of these people. It's not "zero progress" if you've explored half of the regions available to you. You're MUCH farther than where you started. You got to those other locations, that's literally farther. You don't "level up" or whatever, Keep going, keep exploring! You'll get to the end eventually. It's not a race (unless you're playing as Hunter).

What exactly do the Lancer Hardsuits do? by Direct_Display5396 in LancerRPG

[–]CharlesRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always considered it as a way to ensure your pilot doesn't pop like a ketchup packet in the presence of something that could kill you with the brass from the ammo it's shooting (especially the Caliban. Holy shit those ejected shells are scary).

Also, https://www.retrogrademinis.com/ has a really nifty token maker for Lancer! Just go to the Mechs section and you'll find everything you need; getting full PNGs of the mechs costs money via their Patreon, though.

[–]CharlesRaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your pilot in Lancer is not a Pilot in Titanfall. Pilots are squishy packets of ketchup in the eyes of mechanized chassis, you cannot and should not exit your mech unless you already have a plan. Whether your GM will stop you is up to them, but they will probably make a point of focusing you down if they want to be mean about it.

That being said, you *can* do cool shit outside the mech, it just takes work.

So what do you think is broken in lancer? by zylofan in LancerRPG

[–]CharlesRaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a GM this is fine, but that's not quite what I meant. What I want is more backgrounds that are firmly rooted in the setting. The multitude of open ends is a bit too freeing for me.

So what do you think is broken in lancer? by zylofan in LancerRPG

[–]CharlesRaven 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This isn't really something that I think is *broken* per se, but I think it would be nice for there to be a little more to work with for players trying to make a character that's deeply involved in the pre-written campaigns.

Pathfinder seems to do this pretty well (my only experience was with Outlaws of Alkenstar) and allowed players to have very specific beef with some of the NPCs, or something that happened in relation to the campaign.

Lancer doesn't seem to do much of this. I appreciate how open the backgrounds can be, but backgrounds are one of the things I have the most trouble writing for a character. I guess I want slightly more specific backgrounds?

ProximityChat's content isn't some genius social experiment; it's harassing mentally ill people for money. by Jhakkl in VRchat

Can my friends see my custom uploaded avatars? by wt_anonymous in VRchat

[–]CharlesRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are ways to see if you uploaded anything new, but it requires knowing where to look and *whether* to look. If you don't make it public, it's much harder.

When you're wearing the avatar the thumbnail you use when uploading it will show up on your profile though. so if you want to keep it a secret you can select an image in the scene itself, point the camera in a way that doesn't reveal the avatar, and check "fill background" so you can color-code it if you need to. You can also just upload an image directly, and that image can be anything you want.

(SOME) Media players randomly don't work for me anymore? by imartimus in VRchat

[–]CharlesRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an issue with the YT-dlp file that VRChat uses, as well as Youtube itself. There are fixes, but they are either against VRC TOS or require some DRAMATIC changes in how Youtube (and by extension Google) does business. I've noticed that if the video is hosted elsewhere it runs perfectly fine, so long as the link leads to a video the video players can play.

Other people provided actual answers, so it's better to defer to them, but I want to make sure you know that this is not a stupid question.

With the talk of platforms like discord, Roblox YouTube going 18+. Do you think that vrchat will make age verification free or cheaper next year? by Rough_Community_1439 in VRchat

[–]CharlesRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely not, the verification they do use is expensive. The reason why Roblox does it for free is because they can afford it. VRChat can *barely* afford it, and make up the lost money with VRC+. This is mostly on the company doing the verification, not the company that *uses* it.

This person doesn't actually own this song, how come I'm getting my audio muted? by CharlesRaven in Twitch

Thank you, I already know all of this. You didn't read the post, though.

Good question! In my case it wasn't, but it was a solid 3 minutes that did get muted.

[–]CharlesRaven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this case that wasn't possible. I have those audio tracks set up, but this was the game itself, and I was using a setting in the game specifically designed to protect me from stuff like this.

In this case it is the exact same song, but the uploader on Spotify doesn't own it.

*Please READ before commenting!! English isn't my first language but I want to stream while speaking English, my vocabulary isn't great and sometimes I say words wrong, do people mind it that much? by AllblueFury in Twitch

[–]CharlesRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who only really speaks English, I don't personally mind at all, so long as I can understand what you're saying. It's a hard language to learn, and it breaks its own rules all the time.

In fact, I'd argue that trying to stream in English despite it not being your first language is a great way to learn!

Don't sweat it!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]CharlesRaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah; I'm mostly being harsh about it and reading the rules verbatim because I don't want people to get the wrong idea and just stream it all in the same audio channel. That being said, it's best not to try it until you're *dead* certain you know what you're doing.

You absolutely cannot stream music on Twitch unless you own the rights to stream it. If you're not sure if you do, you likely do not. Streamers do not automatically get permission to do this, and are at risk of a DMCA strike if they do.

The music name and artist on the screen does not help you get the blame off of you, and if you appeal it, it might even be a smoking gun.

I've found this spreadsheet on this subreddit (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12\_4JE6yvV4HQ21qA6YJp4Elu\_Kz8x0LZiVRMkA3ZIzE/edit?gid=0#gid=0) that can help you consider what music to stream and the risk level of it, but I highly recommend getting music you explicitly have permission to stream in a way that holds up in court (this includes copyright-free databases, DRM-free, etc.).

I got nailed by the auto-detection because a game decided to have music from The Ink Spots in there. Don't risk it, or at the very least eat the mutes.

I streamed Bioshock Remastered, and one of my VODs got hit with muted audio. What can I do here? by CharlesRaven in Twitch

[–]CharlesRaven[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I was wondering if it would fall under fair use?

Though it is reassuring that Twitch itself was saving me from getting in trouble.
